If there’s one thing that 343i did right with Halo 4, it was buffing the Assault Rifle. The Assault Rifle in Halo 3 and Halo: Reach is pretty underwhelming; it often takes a full magazine to kill a fully shielded enemy Spartan in multiplayer, and even more than that to kill an Elite even on Easy difficulty in Campaign and Firefight.
The Halo 4 Assault Rifle cannot only kill a fully-shielded Spartan in multiplayer, but can even kill a fully-shielded Elite General on Heroic difficulty in less than one magazine. If there’s any hope that Halo: Reach could get another update in the future- after the most recent one to correct the framerate issues on Xbox One- I would love for them to buff the AR to the post-title update Halo 4 standard to make it a more reliable weapon across all game modes.
While they’re at it, bring the DMR’s bloom in line with the Halo 4 version would also be a welcome change.
19 rounds to kill in Reach versus the 13 rounds in Halo 4.
Not to mention, Reach had the slowest-firing AR.
I’d be all for this changing in some way.
However, considering the balance of weapons in the game, I feel that tweaking Reach’s AR would considerably throw off weapon balance.
Reticle bloom would have to be decreased quite a bit for all weapons.
And holy cow, movement speed. We’d need a bit more of that.
That said, I really doubt 343 has the time, resources, or really any interest to tweak this 6-year-old game. As much as I’d like to see a TU that fixes some of the pacing issues in Reach, I just don’t see that happening unfortunately.
But gosh, I’d love to eat my words.
Don’t forget that bursting the AR killed your opponent faster than just holding down the trigger. 343 should honestly use Reach’s art-style and similar multi-player.

The AR is total junk in Halo Reach. It should be used as much as it gets used in Halo 2 (jokes).
I don’t think we’ll be getting an update to Reach though ever again. Doesn’t make a ton of sense.
Yeah… I don’t think that’s gonna happen.
I don’t have a lot of problems with the AR. if you aim well and don’t lay on the trigger, it’s quite effective. I can take down Grunts, Jackals, and Elite Minors/Majors with it. (Though for Elites, I prefer to de-shield them and follow up with a headshot while they recover.) I carried this technique with me into CEA and wow, even its AR is not as bad as I remembered.
Don’t forget that bullet weapons in general are supposed to be pretty horrible against shields. (Even the beautiful DMR needs several shots.) Why else would humanity be getting stomped so badly?
yeah, honestly the assault rifle is weak compared to the DMR, were they trying to create a meta or something?
honestly though, the only problem i have with reach is the jet pack, it makes cover useless and it helps people get into glitch spots where they’re not meant to be, it shouldn’t be in multiplayer for the most part
While the Reach is AR is weaker that the other’s. I really think it’s too late for a change sadly. Just stick to that dmr or magnum man!
It’s not THAT weak, try an assault rifle and magnum combo! It’s easy~
To be fair…AR lost its usefulness after Halo: CE. Now its just an ordinary weapon. None of the range of a DMR or BR, or the power of a Shotgun. AR would have to go back to its first iteration standard to be close to useful again which Halo 5 seems to be doing. As for Reach getting an update it would be better to wait until we get it remastered, then update that one.
No. The point in it being weak is to switch it for another weapon. Plus the other autos such are littered throughput mm are stronger. If you short burst your AR it’s very deadly and can outshoot the DMR , NR, and pistol in default ts. if anything TU should be a full game code update not several playlists. and jetpack needs a nerf it breaks maps

Yes. I’m tired of the Assault Rifle be a throwaway. If there’s one thing 343i did right in Halo 4, it was buffing the Assault Rifle so that it was evenly matched with the DMR and Battle Rifle.
And the Jetpack is fine in Halo: Reach.
Do you really think that 343i is going to bother to go back and try to update a six-year-old game? It’d be cool if they did, maybe remove the ad for Halo: FuD, but I find the prospect of their giving any maintenance to Reach highly unlikely. It seems as though they have very little control over the state of the servers, too.
Yeah 343 could not give a damn less about Reach which sucks since it’s miles better than any of their own trash
