If you want people to keep playing this game post launch it absolutely has to be more friendly with aiming. I can already tell there is going to be a huge skill divide in the player base on this between the players.
If yo load up Halo 6 and every game get wrecked from sweaties in social modes people won’t play it for long. Aiming with the VK78 and Sidekick is the most striking point of gameplay. It’s bad enough playing in social on MCC with people that have smurf accounts.
I get tightening up bullet magnetism to keep guns honest but I play MCC, H5 and the first 2 flights and I can tell you the difficulty of keeping locked on an opponent are worlds apart in these games.
The only that may keep a large enough pool of diverse player skills that keep games fun may be the fact its going to be F2P so newer and returning players get it. But I remember back after CoD Modern Warfare released back in 2007 the Halo player count dropped immensely because it was more casual.
That’s just what I feel at this point. As for the game itself, its amazing. I love so much about it and am very exited for the full release in December. Halo just has so much more competition and our community is aging and doesn’t want to play every game like its a ranked match like in H3 in the 45+ zone.
Yeah as of right now I can say that if the aim issues aren’t fixed then I won’t be playing much.
Halo is my all time favorite franchise and basically all I play, and I was sooooo looking forward to the flights and cancelled my plans to play it this weekend, but it was so bloody frustrating to play that my interest dropped completely.

turn up aim assist to classic halo levels and SEPERATE PLAYERS BASED ON INPUT. this cannot be stressed enough. having controller players and MnK players together in a game like halo is disastrous. there are so many weapons that are just by-design better with a mouse.
the fact that we’ll be having casual xbone players at 30 fps going up against 150+ fps sniper flickshotting PC players is making me lose my mind lol

I’m sorry but halo is fundamentally better on controller than mnk and always will be.
4v4 slayer and mid ranged gun fights is where controllers thrive over mnk because they can just let aa do the tracking for them while mnk have to actually aim and stay on target perfectly to not instantly lose then duel. I just don’t understand how people can be worried about mnk when halo is literally dominated by controllers. People are -Yoinking!- for more aa and 343 will give it to them which will kill the game on pc and end up like mcc where maybe 2 out of the 8 players are on mnk because 90% of players would rather go play a skill based game rather than fighting aim bot.
point being that separating the inputs is the best solution but Microsoft won’t let that happen since they want halo to be a BIG esports game and if the game is separated into mnk/controller tournaments the mnk side would crush controllers viewer ship thus killing hcs
The aim assist on controller is fine to me as a controller player. In fact I prefer this level of aim assist over other Halo games.
Also, the claim that player retention is linked to the level of aim assist is bit dubious. If its controller only matchmaking, everyone has the same level of aim assist and I don’t see what is wrong with that.
I can’t wait for Infinite to release with increased aim assist and PC players loses interest after the first week. We literally saw MCC rise to glory initially with a PC release, then PC players were like “oh, controllers get a huge aim assist… bye.” So much for reaching a new audience. Lets just repeat what happened to MCC on PC, that will go well.

Yeah cause the PC population is dead on MCC, right? Have you even played lately? Every match I play is basically split between PC and Console players.

I never said it was dead. But the game doesn’t have nearly as many players as it could have. And it definitely doesn’t have enough players to be adequate. Good luck finding matches if you get your skill rank high enough! I’ve also tried to turn on input based matchmaking multiple times and have yet to EVER find a match with it (I’m kb/m). Oh, a big Halo tournament is happening? Boy, look at that pathetic view count…
And a huge factor of PC players leaving was the whole issue of strong aim assist with controllers topic. Just watch a past broadcast of almost any PC streamer of Halo around the time who came and went.

Halo and Xbox are intertwined, they can never be separated. Halo is an Xbox game first and foremost. It was not developed by Bungie now 343i as a PC driven game, its for Xbox. Just as CSGO is a PC built game and does not work well on consoles. It is just the facts of life, I don’t want to say “sorry this just isn’t the game for you then…” because that shouldn’t be the case but Halo is for the Xbox and should cater to console needs. I can’t believe there isn’t a way to make it accessible for both platforms but understand there is a 20 year history with here. Halo CE and Xbox (original) launched the same day.
Saying that well PC gaming is the future and where all the marketability is underscores the Xbox completely. The whole concept of 4 player splitscreen and 16 player lan lines playing Halo CE and Halo 2 made the Xbox.

Agreed. For me personally, I’m not interested in watching controller e-sports.

Haha, I’m not saying PC gaming is the sole future either. I’m talking about Halo reaching new audiences. And obviously 343 is trying to reach that audience with the MCC PC porting, and releasing Infinite on PC. And Halo actually plays amazing on PC, it is fun and very rewarding when your nail your shots! So to say it isn’t built for PC is just wrong. It can work wonderfully. And currently for Infinite, I think they are doing pretty well. But if they increase the aim assist too much on controller, it will drastically increase our chances of just getting another Halo game that gets a lot of hype the first week, and then becomes a bottom of the barrel game again.
I get the need for a game to be fun for casual play as well and their might be some tweaking involved. But just increasing aim assist on controller across the board (that is already pretty strong) is not the way to do it.

The reason Halo was so successful was because of the time period it was released in. Most computers back then were crap in comparison to consoles and the good ones wasn’t affordable. I completely understand where you are coming from, but for Infinite to be successful it has to capture both the console and PC market. You do realize that right? PC players aren’t going to want to play with aim assist and that leads to most big streamers not investing in it. As someone who played a lot of MCC on M&KB, you literally can’t even compete against controllers on the older titles the aim assist is so strong. If they don’t get this right this time, the game will suffer the same fate as MCC on PC.
