Last night I was finally able to play BTB after seeing discussions in the forums and watching a few people play on Twitch. All I can say is…
It was great!
Driving around in vehicles and taking on a tank in a gungoose is what I loved about BTB in the first place. I didn’t care about my KD or Rank I eventually got and just enjoyed playing my matches.
The first game I played on Headlong/Guillotine was bad because my team didn’t really know the map at all and couldn’t move around much at all. The next time we were much better at moving around and had a great time.
Later in the night we were playing CTF on Deadlock and our opponents scored an early point and camped their base pretty hard. We were able to push into their base and I picked up the flag and started running out. My wife came in the bottom tunnel so I tossed her the flag as I would make a better escort. We ran near the outside of the map through the rocks and got right in front of our main door. I turn around to check for enemies and see one about to fire a rocket. I start shooting him but the rocket goes off aimed at my wife. I jump into the air to catch it with my body… 1-1.
One of our teammates was invisible and sitting in their base and quickly picked up the flag after we scored. He made it to the front of the base before he was killed. Everyone who had died spawned and rushed to try and pick up the flag before it was returned. A teammate got the flag and ran it into the base but was killed seconds before the second capture. The team was frantically trying to get to the flag when I managed to run in just holding down X to pickup the flag and score. 2-1.
There were only two minutes left in the game so we decided the best chance of winning was to camp the flag.
The enemy team had graciously driven their warthog into our base during the previous capture so I went and parked it right on top of the flag. Someone in my party chat didn’t understand why I would do such a thing until he saw multiple people run into the base and repeatedly get into the Warthog instead of grabbing the flag.
I was dying of laughter at this point but we had come from behind to pull out a win while laughing our -Yoinks!- off. BTB was back.
Here are some of my thoughts about BTB
- I couldn’t give two -Yoink- about the textures on the map. If I can see my enemy and the map plays well, I’m happy. - RP for BTB needs to be greatly increased. - Still annoying to play all 10 ranking matches with someone and have them get ranked higher/lower than you. - Recurve seems to cramped for a tank - Warthogs catch way to much air off the tiniest of bumps. Are the made of plastic instead of steel? - Probably one of the best nights of Halo I have had since it came out.
