At the end of the game I had 29 kills. But after I check the post game report it says I only have 18 kills. (This has happened to me many times before) Does anyone know why this happens?
You’re playing BTB Heavies. You get extra points in game for certain kills like headshots, splatters, and stickies.
Totally normal.

Oh thank you! So if you get certain medals you get extra kills?

Not medals but if you get a headshot on an enemy, you get 2 points, if you stick someone, you get two points, etc. Only one kill, but two points.
This question gets asked a lot! I’m not sure how many characters 343 can use in that gametype details/instructions thing that pops up at the start of a match, but they should consider adding in an explanation about this crazy system. Something like “150 points to win. Score points via kills, headshots, betrayals, splatters, and stickies”.

Thank god!! Thought my friend was modding or something when he in-game had 41 kills and suddenly 59 in post-game board.

Yeah, it’s a weird system that catches a lot of people off-guard if they don’t know it!
I had to go back and watch a game in theatre when they first started that BTB Heavy gametype. I thought I was going crazy too.
Heavies is not the only thing that causes a discrepancy.
Heavies gives two POINTS in game for melee kills, headshots, splatters and sticks.
If your points are not matching your kills in all other circumstances it is because of one of the following reasons…
1 Betrayal
2 Suicide
3 You blew up a vehicle while killing it’s occupants. You are awarded 1 additional kill on your profile for doing this… that means if you kill a vehicle with one person in it it will show as 2 kills and if you kill a vehicle with 2 people in it it will show as three kills…etc…
So, this post is really old, but what I’m gathering is that the in-game scoreboard displays only kills, and the post-game scoreboard displays total points (kills plus point bonuses). Is this correct?

No the in game scorecard shows points not kills. The post game score card shows only kills but it can be skewed because if you kills players in a vehicle then that shows up a kill for the vehicle too but doesn’t count in your points in game.
That’s why when you finish normal BTB sometimes you will see your in game points as 16 but your post game report says 18 because you blew up 2 occupied vehicles. And a sword -Yoink!- in a Heavies match will have 30 points in game but only have 15 kills in the post game report.
And of course any betrayals and suicides will deduct a kill point from your total so some game you may of had 16 kills in the post game report but only 14 points ing game because you betrayed one player and suicide once.
