BTB really isn't fun without BR starts

It’s not and I know how to use other weapons just fine. I’ve beat people using the BR with just the Sidekick at medium range. I understand how all the weapons work and actively seek out better weapons than what I start with as the game is intended.

BTW the AR is probably the strongest it’s ever been other than variants in Halo 5. People have complained at nauseam about this AR being too strong and too accurate at even medium range. Specifically citing that they’ve lost to an AR at range with a BR. Personally I think that’s probably more of a desync issue, but this AR definitely is an all purpose weapon. It’s not terrible like you make it out to be. As I’ve said before. You clearly need to learn how to use the other weapons in the sandbox instead of only using one gun.

I believe I’ve also made it clear that I’m not that concerned with K/D and win loss. I frequently play Fiesta. Yeah good luck keeping up your K/D and win loss ratio. It’s all random luck. Also there’s no official tracker and the ones people talk about aren’t 100% accurate. Had some guy in another thread try to say I’ve only played 10 hours. 10 hours… I did that within the first week. So don’t try to use any of that unreliable bull.

I really feel like you are ignoring what I’m saying on purpose. I literally use everything in the game and always have. I especially do this because I hate the AR and will pick up anything at all to use instead.

Bruh I just can’t stand btb. I feel so powerless especially when a guy is at range

This sandbox is honestly terrible. It’s ok for arena, but btb it’s piss awful

I eventually figured out the 5 or so weapons worth picking up and using consistently and just spend the whole game slaying out with them. I never waste time on objectives, that’s for the peons and bots who don’t mind dying 1000 times every match.

Map pacing. While it’s stressful when a good sniper is destroying your team, I kind of think that’s how it should be. An average sniper can be disabled quite easily with a pistol or a commando found on the map. Otherwise any player from any vantage point could just laser down enemies from very large distances. Players deserve to be able to navigate the map without the vast majority of the other side being able to shred them from a great distance.

AR starts also means players are encouraged to keep track of weapon spawns and use this knowledge in conjunction with their effort to control the map.

BR starts have ruined social slayer, and I’d hate to see the same happen to BTB.

EDIT: In addition to that second paragraph, this makes the BRs in AR start matches a mid tier power weapon, and stealing one from the enemy base could be a huge game changer. I just think it encourages people to interact with the sandbox more, which is where I find the most enjoyment.

Why can’t we have a strong sandbox with precision starts instead? Why you trash cans like spawning weak

well yeah, because they’re desperate for a weapon that will actually work on these huge maps

I highly doubt you’d see people using the hydra, heatwave, rockets, hammer, sniper, shock rifle, sentinel beam, etc. LESS in BR starts than you would right now in AR starts. The reason to pick up most weapons is to kill vehicles, which the BR can’t do any better than the AR or Sidekick, or to kill enemies faster, which the BR can’t do any better than the AR or Sidekick, unless you’re shooting at longer ranges.

343 didn’t want to make a strong sandbox they wanted one that cuddled bad players.

The actual only reason I can come up with for people to be so against the BR is that they’re not that confident in their abilities to use it, and know they would not be a match for people who can. So they want an easy to use, more niche weapon instead so it reduces the skill gap enough that they can compete with better players.

But I mean, we have weapon drills and bot custom matches in this game so that’s not a valid excuse anymore. FFS they should just Vegeta the situation and improve so much they love the rest of the sandbox instead of just the AR.

Because there’s hardly any reason to trade up. A well performing but imprecise auto weapon with a somewhat percise, somewhat decently performing secondary allows for trading to something like say a bulldog or pulse carbine, to be a viable niche in the combat loop. If everyone has a well performing precision weapon then those niches become nearly useless. No one trades a BR for a bulldog or pulse carbine or needler or heatwave because the BR performs better.

By having players start with an AR some people will trade for a BR, and some will trade for all sorts of other weapons which fulfil a niche without the constant fear of being lasered down from mid-to-long range.

Also, insults aren’t warranted, slugger. I’m engaging with the topic. You might not agree with me, but don’t talk trash unless you’re ready for me to stomp you in a 1v1.

Uh… yeah, I kinda just said that. I think that’s fine. I don’t want everyone to be competent on these very large maps at the word go. The fricks with the pacing.

Seems like wishful thinking to me. Fortunately we have previous entries in the series to use as reference, and from personal experience, yes in Halo 2 and 3 players were less likely to trade weapons around unless it was the rocket launcher or the sniper. The plasma rifle, shotgun, SMG, AR, needler, mauler, etc went under utilized because they just didn’t perform as well as the BR.

Unless it’s to chip away at armor from a distance, which is a far more viable method than you may think, and these BTB maps are quite large.

Not having BR start isn’t encouraging me to move around the map, its only encouraging me to find nearest BR spawn & a useful secondary weapon spawn then operate between them.
Then when you die, going to get another BR & prolly standing waiting on it to spawn is just groundhog day gaming, its monotonous.

We are over 8 months into the game, there should at least be mixed starts by now, some games AR other BR starts.
Give everyone a bit variety!

If there’s “hardly any reason to trade up” its because that particular weapon is bad. If the only reason someone is picking up a weapon, is because they can’t get to weapons they actually want to use you are only making the experience worse.

God forbid we ever do what Deybwan was asking for and make underperforming weapons better, nah, its better to force people to use badly designed unpopular weapons instead.

I will never understand this obsession with trying to force players to use certain weapons regardless of context because you don’t want to see a certain weapon model as often.

Auto start stans are never interested in solving problems, just forcing players to eat whatever slop is fed to them by the developers as long as they get see different weapons models and shiny effects.

100% this. Ar start lovers don’t ever realize why BR starts are a “oNe gUn gAMe”. It’s because these weapons are total garbage. With AR starts they’re now viable(hardly) because there’s nothing better. I will look for the BR at all times. I’ve noticed on the newest btb map people stay in their base or on that left side ledge with a BR or some ranged weapon: and pick off people whom can’t fight back half the time. This is one reason halo is failing because 343 is obsessed with spawning players weak. Why do you think everyone in majority of games want to spawn with the Meta? Because players don’t want to die because another player had a better weapon because of some ranger differential. H5(pre patch) had the best sandbox, unfortunately too many pros complained about certain weapons being upgrades compared to the spawning weapon , which in my eyes shouldn’t be an issue. Spawn me strong, and let otter tools be stronger. It’s that simple. Oh and have a projectile system like apex legends where cross mapping isn’t easy.

  1. you might as well give people no weapons at the start if that’s your goal. But I mean, if you think its fair to force people to fight tanks with a sidekick then I don’t know how to convince you otherwise.

  2. No. It’s how it works. Do you ever watch ranked gameplay? Tournament gameplay? Do you not see people using every single weapon available? What do you see in AR starts that is different?

  3. No, its a tremendous waste of ammo to shoot vehicle armor with any kinetic weapon. You could get 8 kills with a BR before you even dented a warthog. The damage values are awfully mismanaged in this game. Plasma does more damage to vehicles than Kinetic does, by a wide margin. You’d be better off chipping away at something with a pulse carbine or plasma pistol.

Total garbage until you queue up into a playlist that has AR starts. Then all those other weapons are suddenly not garbage and suddenly perform way better.

I guess I would follow your logic and could get on board… if they severely nerfed the BR.

The BR is one of the slowest killing weapons in the game, it just has really good range. There is a pretty huge window where most of the sandbox kills it at least a half second faster.

Or you can always just be a better shot than them with your own BR

Or, just give people ARs and a sidekick. I don’t know why we’d need to jump to the furthest extreme of having people start with nothing. Also, I like your example with the sidekick fighting a tank. Yeah because that’s how it goes in practice right? One team at the start of the match begins in a tank and the other team is one guy with a pistol and no weapons to be found around the map. If that’s the case then maybe all players should spawn with a BR primary and a rocket launcher secondary. Y’know just to make sure those tanks aren’t piloted by unskilled players that need a crutch.

I physically cannot care less about tournament gameplay. I’ve played ranked quite a bit and my observation is CERTAINLY true in that environment. Everyone just uses the BR. I often am the only player picking up ARs, bulldogs, etc.

WRONG! I managed to dispatch a banshee very easily within the last few weeks in only an arena match on behemoth just by typing in the team chat. “Everyone shoot the banshee with your BRs.” And within the minute it was destroyed by purely BR fire. It is absolutely feasible to chip away at vehicle damage for at least an assist using the BR.

  1. What good is an AR and a sidekick against a tank? A tank that is randomly dropped by the devs because they think its funny?

  2. If you’re playing ranked and nobody is picking up weapons, its because they’re bad at the game. Pros in the highest level tournaments use everything available. And for real, people aren’t picking up the bulldog? One of the strongest overall weapons in ranked? I wish I had your lobbies, I would probably look like a god

  3. Once again, I wish I was in your lobbies, nobody ever helps me shoot the vehicles in BTB. I have an entire montage in the works where I have to do it all myself constantly. And having to spend a full minute of the entire team shooting one vehicle to kill it is NOT a good use of time or resources. You can kill it by yourself in a few seconds with a half dozen different weapons you could find on the map.
