So it seems like the scaling for qualification in BTB is broken somehow. So far the only onyxs i know of won all 10 of there qualification matches. If you lost any more than 1 you would be placed in platinum or lower. Anyone know why it is so hard to rank up? Is there a different scaling on csr in relation to individual performance?
There are only 15 Onyx players in BTB. It is very hard to win 10 games for placement matches, thus why people are getting ranked Platinum and Diamond. Only real way to get Onyx is to rank up from Diamond, unless you know you have an unbeatable team.
I’ve lost 2 out of 7 so far. I played 4 games after that and I got disconnected halfway through the match every time. Never had this problem before the update so I’m hoping it was just a fluke. I’ll play my last 3 when I get off work and report back.
Most likely I’ll place in platinum. But ,I also read on reddit that there are only a few Onyx players in BTB but who knows.

Maybe even Gold if you disconnected. I only lost 2 games and got into Platinum.
I know this is anecdotal, but I went 8-1-1 in the 10 matches of BTB I played last night, had decent (normally, top 1/3) KDA stats (except for a couple objective games where I was a meat shield trying to cap objectives constantly). . . and ranked platinum.
Multiple other players I talked to said that they went 9-1 or 10-0, always had a positive KDA, and still were only platinum. Conversely, two players who only won 50% of their matches, and one player who only won 1 match, ranked diamond despite poor team records and average KDA.
I play BTB to mess around, so I’m not going to raise hell about ranking, but the ranking functionally feels to be a little off.
That being said, I haven’t had ranking issues with any other playlist, I got slotted into skill ranks right around where I would predict.
I’ve noticed that when playing placement matches, individual skill HAS to play a part in the placement. When moving up the ladder is when I believe W/L is all that goes into account. Idk about BTB, and I’ve read straight from 343i that winning/losing is the only way to rank up/down, but when my friend and I played all 10 of our placements for slayer together I was placed in Onyx and he was placed Diamond. We had the exact same W/L record but I was awarded a better placement? Idk I just finished BTB placement (7 matches, won all, top 3 in 6 out of 7, a 4th place) overall I won 8 and was placed plat. I can’t remember my first 3 matches although I do know I won once and I don’t think I played horribly as I’m usually top 3 on my team. I did notice only a single diamond while playing and no onyx players. Maybe BTB is different.
Btb rank is messed up me and my friend played 8 out of 10 together he was sure I would place diamond or onyx and I dropped 20+ and close to 30 in every obj. And placed either 2nd or 3rd in obj matches by capturing obj. every match he averaged 15 he got platinum and then I did 2 without him where I was thrown into two slayer matches already under way where the score was 22-45 and 18-44 still put up 20+ kills in both but lost. And got plat also in the 2 I lost went against a champion and out scored both of them. Honestly it feels like everyone will get placed in plat unless you win all your games then it either place you diamond or onyx depending how you did.
