Likely because of the domino effect. One person leaving isn’t that big of an issue, but if anyone can just up and leave whenever they want with 0 penalty, then suddenly you have entire groups dropping out of games to be replaced with bots. Bots, while an ok substitute for a player to even the numbers game, do not function like real players. Turn them up too high and they become walking aim bots, turn them down too low and they’re basically cannon fodder for easier kills on the enemies side. Thus creating an incentive for the enemy to actively avoid the real players to farm the bots until replacement players take their place (which can sometimes never happen.)
Though I do believe they need to be a bit more lenient with the non-ranked bans. One free pass, the second leave is penalized with a short cool down before you can requeue, the third time increases the time, the fourth further increases the ban, the fifth is a lockout ban.
Sad to say but a lot of the players are much like children, you can not leave them unattended for a moment without problems surfacing. However, 343 can not sit there and monitor hundreds of thousands of players at all times.
It doesn’t matter if it’s ranked. You’ll be excused a few times…but banned if you’ve left too many. It’s a team game where 2 teams go at it. 2 full teams are needed. A DC is very unfortunate, but to pretend that the match is unaffected by 1 team not being full Is absurd. It doesn’t matter if it’s ranked or not.
People make threads complaining about stuff and sometimes you find out they basically shot themselves in the foot. I just replied to another person earlier complaining about sbmm and why they get hard matches…only to realize the person had 35 DNF games and quit out of a bunch of matches where they’d probably have a bad kd stat and MM would have started to adjust itself afterwards.
If you’re banned, it’s because you left a few matches already. Not just 1. The severity of the ban (amount of time banned) will be higher the more times you’ve been banned for DNF.
You didn’t even want to play the game in the first place since you quit so much lmao

They would abn you whether or not it was christmas, you still left the match. It may not have been a big deal for a 16v16 until 4 others on your team leave because they think they won’t be banned on christmas then your team is down to 11. Even if this wasn’t the case, your logic is flawed

It doesn’t matter that it’s not ranked, you can’t have people coming and going from unfinished matches because waiting for new players to cycle in because several left. It ruins their experience being stuck with bots while the enemy team likely has a full team.
How does it work in every other title when not ranked? seems to work fine there.
You mean in MCC? Because you get temp banned from normal matches there too. The point is that you queued up for a game, unless an emergency comes up, you should not be leaving the match and the small punishment is well earned if you left for anything short of an actual emergency.
After all, if you didn’t want to play, you wouldn’t queue up. And since this ‘conversation’ between us is becoming nothing more than a disagreement for how leavers are treated, I’m going to stop responding since it’s not constructive.

Bungie does suck -Yoink!- and is one of the worst devs around, but you need to blame 343 for this one.
Other games also ban you from quitting. And it doesn’t matter if it’s ranked or not as you’re still ruining the experience for the other players. Sorry you think the game should revolves around you but you need to see that you’re not in the right here. Ranked isn’t everything you know. That’s like saying only the players who play ranked and those matches matter. Guess what, it still effects your K/D and W/L ratios when playing social.
Here’s a few tips:
Don’t wanna play objectives? Play slayer playlists.
You’re losing or having a bad game? Take the loss like a champ and do your best.
Not got the match you need for a challenge? Just finish it, it takes 15mins tops and at the end of the day have fun and don’t worry so much about them, that and someone else on your team may need a challenge in that match.
If the only reason you can think of for not being band is “It’s not ranked and one player leaving doesn’t effect a match”. Then you’ve already lost the arguement.
