Im starting to think btb has too many players. people are constantly respawning and stopping any kind of advancement you previously made (mostly talking about btb ctf). since maps are larger to accommodate sprint they might feel pretty empty if it went back to 8v8 but maybe 10v10 could work
BTB is about all I play, never had an issue with the current plauer count IMO.
I actually enjoy this 12v12. Now if we ever get BR starts it’ll definitely need to go down to 10v10 or 8v8.
i do agree it fills out the maps well with 12v12. its only really the people respawning near base objectives like ctf when i run into the issue of constantly having to fight respawners instead of being able to go for the objective.
12v12 isn’t really an issue, it’s map design and the stupid RNG weapon and vehicle spawn that are the issue.
i didnt even think about that and that could be the actual issue
I think a big difference between legacy BTB and Infinite’s BTB is that successful solo flag pushes are way less likely to succeed.
With Infinite’s movement tech and respawn systems, you have to get 2-3 rounds of slays to get a flag meaningfully away from the enemy base. And then you have to get 1-2 rounds if slays out front of your own base to actually get it in. That’s just not usually feasible without a lot of the team successfully executing a push
My only real issue about BTB is most of the maps are pretty boring, I’ve thought this since Infinite launched. Thankfully they added at least one new BTB map since then. Breaker is the only map that I care to play BTB on anymore.
Player count is fine. Its that 343i feel the need to make random vehicle and weapon drops to accommodate their spawning limitations.
I noticed last round that it’s frightening easy to lose track of a flag carrier if they active cloak just before snagging the flag. Had a guy doing it multiple times and the cloak will completely remove all tags as to where he is until the cloak ends. If you didn’t focus him down the instant he grabbed the flag he could easily escape pushes for the entire duration of the cloak. You have to really pay attention to see the invisible dude with the flag.
I personally like the maps, but I do hope for some variety going forward. The newest BTB map though I will admit could use more cover options. Large maps with huge sight lines are usually painful if good snipers appear on the teams. Nothing like trying to hold an objective where you can be sniped from multiple spots on the map and you’re just suppose to “deal with it”.
I worry though if they bring back fan favorites, like Bloodgulch, which is 10x worse when it came to sniper sight lines without doing anything to it. I know people like it, but I don’t want to be pinned inside those tiny bases or instantly headshotted as soon as I spawn outside on the open map.
It’s the map design mostly. The locations are too few and simple. They try to do the 3-lane map design, but what ends up happening is that you have 5+ players in any given area. Personally I think a 5-lane design would be more interesting. Also many of the maps only have 1 level.
That’s what I want too, more variety but all these maps are nearly identical in their overall designs(especially the BTB maps). They all have a three-lane set up where most of the action is always happening in these “three lanes” on each map.
Breaker is also a three lane map(surprised?) but it’s built a little differently than the other BTB maps. And it has variables that players can not control easily, like the laser in the center that blocks vehicles from crossing momentarily or the different routes you can take on each of the three lanes like how you can go underneath the Grav Lift tower or go over it or drop down into the magma pit from the center or the foundry and travel to any of the other lanes with minimal worry of being spotted by anyone in a high position… Breaker is the most fun to me simply because it has more variety of different routes that a player can choose to take in any of the lanes.
I do miss maps like Headlong, Containment, Sidewinder. Maps that vehicles can just drive around in and not have to stick to specific pathing and theres still areas to run around safely in too.
I agree with the speakers. I also miss maps like bloodgulch, sidewinder, standoff. They could remaster these maps and modify them a bit in their own way. In these bases, these 3 sterile stripes annoy me too, as if I was playing the same map all the time.
This definitely a true statement. Especially when the maps are really narrows and not round and open. Why I think that Blood Gulch would be a great map, but how this a halo works I don’t like it.
This 100000%. It’s always map design and gameplay balance; I have a blast in BTB CTF but some maps and other modes are complete cluster of hot garbage.
Use 2 dynamo grenades.
imo this iteration of btb is my favorite in the franchise and is one of the things i think they nailed. Now if only they could have more than 4 maps
