BTB needs a complete overhaul

I’m not sure who at 343 hates vehicles but it’s clear somebody there does. Ever since 343 has taken the reigns it seems like vehicle gameplay has gotten to the point where many vehicles are practically useless. I had really high hopes for Halo Infinite in that we would finally be getting a mode with large battlefield size maps with a player count somewhere around the 64 mark and a large focus on vehicle gameplay while also still having areas for people who prefer to fight on foot. While we still might get that mode eventually I don’t believe it would be very fun with how weak the vehicles currently are and with how bad the map design is.

Maps are extremely congested and provide too much cover for infantry in all areas of the map, if 343 wants to continue with the 3 lane map design then there should be a large open lane for vehicles to fight in that would also punish any infantry that tried going there. If 343 went and made a mode with a large player count you could cater to all types of play styles in every map if you wanted to. For example you could have a map that takes place in a city where there would be interior buildings infantry could fight in where vehicles would have no access, streets where vehicles like warthogs and ghosts would fight while still having minimal cover for infantry to engage them but have plenty of room for vehicles to maneuver, high rise rooftops for infantry to fight but also allows air vehicles to engage them, and more open streets that allow tanks to fight each other and be very punishing for infantry to go there.

Now if 343 fixed the bad map design it would probably fix most of the issues with vehicles, but I do think it’s stupid how small arms do any damage to vehicles and having snipers drop vehicles with a couple shots takes away the skill of actually shooting out the driver or gunner that previous games had. Personally I’d prefer if the only weapons that were even capable of damaging vehicles were rockets, grenades, hydra, skewer, and cindershot. Allowing the shock rifle to emp vehicles is also a complete joke with how incredibly long the emp effect is in this game and the absurd amount of dynamo grenades every map has makes using vehicles useless a lot of the times.

Also I’m sure everyone is well aware at this point on how terrible vehicle physics are in this game and it blows my mind how Halo 3, a game that came out over 15 years ago is so much superior to this game in so many ways.

I always question what these people are doing with vehicles if they claim they’re useless because I can usually get tons done with most of the vehicles in this game. Even vehicles the ones more dedicated towards transporting people I get solid usage out of them. Is the reason you’re upset about vehicles is because they don’t last forever for you or something? You can’t just drive around the map for the entire duration in a tank and constantly slaughter infinity and other vehicles left and right?

Coverage helps balance precision weapons from dominating maps too, more so snipers. I don’t want to play Bloodgulch where the enemy team locks us all down within one of the bases and if we even step a toe outside of base we’re instantly headshotted by one of the 5+ snipers around the map or destroyed by vehicles because all we have is AR’s and Pistols to defend ourselves for instance lol.

That Banished BTB Map they released last season is one where I feel there’s not enough cover for instance. The middle is a dead zone if you don’t bum rush through it fast and they have snipers up. Not to mention in specific zones they want you to actually hold possitions in the middle, which makes it fun trying to take on advancing people while being peppered by snipers and hoping you can last long enough to make a real difference for your team. Mostly that upper area that is above the under ground tunnel for vehicles/infantry where those cores spawn as well as a zone you have to hold and capture to get points. The area around the launch pads too have that problem as well. I gotta some how hold this area and hope I don’t get sniped from one of the 50 different directions snipers like to camp in.

Bigger areas for vehicles is a great idea to support gameplay but 12v12 is very difficult to incorporate and have success.

I think it’s fine as long as a nice balance is made between cover and area’s infantry can run and feel like they’re not just going to get annihilated as well as paths that are clearly made for vehicles can be used. Most of the original BTB maps actually accomplish this well, but I think Oasis does it best. They have area’s that are clearly dedicated towards infinity as well as Area’s where both infantry and vehicles can shine. I hope to see more of this going forward, but with some variety so that this formula doesn’t get stale.

I don’t know about complete over haul but maps that are more vehicle friendly would be nice.

It all started with sage during reach if we are honest.

H2A had decent vehicle support imo.

But ya they used to be something that seperated halo from other contemporary fps games but now feel so weak they are a death trap. Its a shame.

They just need to change a few rules on each map. I think the whole weapon drop system is somewhat fine, as well as vehicle drops. However, weapon drops need notification if you’re nearby and what it is before hand, new players don’t even know that’s a weapon drop sometimes.

Vehicle drops just need to be notified as well, and Not in the middle for players to fight for. The new map Oasis has it right with it in the back.

Few other things but i forgot them as I was typing this. Ill update if i remember.

I always question what bots are in your lobby when someone says vehicles are good in this game, sure wasps and tanks have a lot of health but warthogs are made of paper, the horrific map designs, the stupid over abundance of emp weapons, and OP noob rifle (AR) makes sure anyone with half a brain can take them out with ease.

Yeah that’s definitely it. I really hate it when the enemy charge my Scorpion with their assault rifles blazing. I usually just jump out and run for the hills….

Well if you read what I was saying was I was specifically talking about the warthog, also the scorpion can barely maneuver on most maps, that right there should tell you that the maps are very poorly designed.

I literally went into a custom game and shot a warthog with my entire Assault Rifle clip, as well as fully unloaded my Pistol into it and it showed only the first small spark worths of damage to it.

Not to mention if the gunner is good you’ll be melted before you get through the first clip of your Assault Rifle into the Warthog as the LAAG.

If you’re getting destroyed by Assault Rifle fire in matches, you’re probably getting gunned down by several people and not just a few. Hell, even then they’ll probably kill you and your passengers before the vehicle takes any serious damage.

The Assault Rifles one of the worst weapons in the game verse vehicles though. If you don’t believe me I’ll gladly record videos of me shooting them all with one if you’d like. Hell, you won’t even take a mongoose out with the ammo you have after respawning in…

The days of hogs driving Infinite laps around sandbox are gone, and that makes the internet shout “vehicles are trash!”

I think vehicles are no different than any other part of Infinite. There’s a large skill gap, and great players do great with vehicles

My mistake. It clearly shreds Warthogs in just a few rounds as well.

You’re point about maps not really being design for larger vehicles to move around is valid but you discredit your whole argument by making obviously false statements.

Yeah, that really melts through vehicles super quickly… Tested it on the Warthog ( LAAG ), Mongoose and Wasp…

If you want actual positive changes to the game, you’re going to want to state facts and not rely so heavily on exaggerations, fiction and make believe when pushing your wants and needs.

Sorry what I was referring to is how the AR can just magnet on too the driver or gunner and obliterate them, the gun is incredibly OP in that regard and either needs a damage/range nerf or it needs to be more difficult to use.

I think one aspect Infinite’s community seems to ignore about vehicles, is that the weak points actually matter. In H3 you could use the AR as a “poor man’s anti vehicle weapon”, because it actually did semi decent damage to vehicles and had damage bleed through to vehicle players shields.

In Infinite, (in my opinion and anecdotal experience) the only way to get similar results to the H3-AR vs Vehicles is to focus your AR fire on wheels and exposed engine parts.

I’d be curious what the results are from your AR test against warthogs in Infinite if you specifically target wheels and the hood/exposed engine. Last year when I tested it, the AR was taking ot the warthog out about the time the third wheel popped.

Also, for anyone curious, you should go check out the “Defend the House” YT channels “Halo Infinite Myth Busters” series. One of them shows that vehicles in Infinite likely have some sort of health regeneration mechanic

Are there weak points in this game? I remember the ghost being that sphere thing on the inside by the legs originally.

Anywho, those things aren’t always as reliable to hit. It’s nice if you can, but majority of the time it’s not really an option unless the enemy team is just ignoring you for some reason.

Yea, they had a whole section in a blog a year or so ago about how they super expanded and built out the vehicle damage system for Infinite. You can do significantly more damage to vehicles if you aim for weak spots.

Like if you use the Skewer and compare shooting the Scorpions treads with other parts of the tank, it takes way more damage when you shoot the weak spots (treads and then exposed treads).

And every vehicle has multiple weak spots now in Infinite. Shooting the wasp engines with the AR shreds it way faster than most BTB players realize for example, and I already mentioned the hog one you can do with the AR too.

I will admit when you get stuck with stupid teammates vehicles can seem like they’re a lot less effective then they really are. So many idiots out there like to jump into large groups of enemies like they believe they’re invincible. This is the fault of having stupid teammates, not the fault of vehicles and/or how weapons function though.

Just came out of a match where I had two instances where I went into a warthog to gun down some Wasps that were giving our team trouble. I moved them to be behind our Spartans fighting in Oasis so I could use the LAAG and gun the WASPS down. But both times a stupid teammate decided they should “Halp me”, jump into the Driver seat and proceed to drive me into a group of 5+ Spartans getting us both killed. After the second time I kindly texted him to “$%#@ off”.

Why I hate playing with stupid randoms and try to avoid it at all costs. Please learn some common sense next time.

MY, biggest problem most of all still, is unfair vehicle drops. Lost too many games because a tanks on the enemy team instead of us getting anything at all.
