If simply don’t care about the sandbox balance you could have opened with that because otherwise we got nothing to discuss. You’re projecting the fact that it’s your preference you’re gunning for, and just now lamenting the labor of walking a virtual character to a BR wall spawn.
BR starts have never and will never belong in btb. BTB is largly about vehicle gameplay and starting people with strong precision weapons make vehicles pretty much unusable. When you have 8 (now 12) players running around with brs they make vehicles either blow up within seconds or die instantly as soon as you poke out of your spawn.
Vehicles are suppose to be a bit of a challenge that require smart playing and/or controlling the power weapons to take down. All it takes is a single decent player using a br to counter a warthog, now imagine 12 of them, especially with the maps we have now for btb where vehicles are pretty much on rails as none of the maps have any decently open areas so vehicles can’t easily evade gunfire. Seriously, br can kill in 4 hits, with 12 ppl shooting a hog at the same time with a br they will either kill all 3 occupants or flat out blow it up instantly with just a single shot from each person.
No they made that change in the reach btb in mcc it wasn’t that way when reach came out it mostly resulted in people staying back and not engaging at all. It made all close range focused weapons basically useless. Why would you want that. I could see a single gamemode which had a br start or an extra playlist but not the whole of btb.
Its not fun spawning into a game then getting hit because the opponent picked up a BR and you couldnt because the weapon racks are empty. AR starts might be fun for you because ppl dont know what they are doing but if you are matched with experinced Halo players only having an AR is not fun.
BR&AR starts should be the move in social gamemodes like how it was in H3.
It’s sbmm isn’t it, but still the maps are designed in a way the BR is only dominant if you engage. There’s barely any too. Big Team is more fun without them imo.
in the frankly, very rare instances where there’s no ranged weapon on the racks or a vehicle to get in, there’s plenty of areas designed around close quarters combat that dont have long sightlines.
If you’re getting gunned down at range without any way to retaliate, your positioning is bad.
Using Fragmentation as an example: you can head off to the sides of the map, on the path towards the loot vaults. There’s tons of cover and if you run into someone with a BR in those areas you’ll actually have the advantage over them since the AR wins at medium range. You can take the man cannon from spawn to go to the left side, which is a bit riskier, or you can walk along the back, which is safer but slower.
Hell, you even find weapon racks containing close range weapons in those areas. It’s like the map itself is giving you a hint.
You always have options unless you get unlucky and spawn inside someone’s crosshairs.
theory crafting doesnt apply here.
What if that person doesnt push? youre stuck in the cover and cant move. Then you will be grenaded. I swear you play at a very low level.
youre getting sprayed far away by the AR, why is it a problem that its a BR that takes more skill to use than spraying. You actually have to aim it instead of engulf them in a circle. Bad players make this argument because they want to be able to use power weapons against people who cant fight back.
There’s plenty of options for you to take where you can break sightlines. You shouldn’t be able to get locked down in spawn by a BR unless you “play at a very low level” yourself.
You could go around to Flag 1 spawn, an area littered with narrow passageways and cover, or maybe along the bottom of the cliffs where the repulsor spawns, or around the back where the shotguns spawn, or maybe the lower level of the base where you can get a grapple or a variety of weapons to use (one being a BR)
Remember, this is also BTB, something will come along to move them from their position unless your team is getting heavily locked down in your base.
You talk about theorycrafting when you’ve built up an oversimplified, practically impossible situation to fit your argument.
No, the multiplayer is built around AR and Pistol start. It is the center of how weapons function. changing starting weapons to be BR would ruin the weapon dynamic. you need to understand how game design works.
I disagree, I prefer the commando over the BR in BTB.
They respawn quickly the only time all 12 people need a weapon at the same time is at the beginning of the game, when there are also vehicles. And again, a lot of areas in the btb maps are very well suited to using the sidekick.
If we all spawned with BRs the match would quickly devolve into what DMR start Halo Reach was with everyone in cover and shooting across the map. Starting with medium-short range weapons incentivises people to search for different guns and encourages closer range engagements; both of these lead for a much more varied and engaging match.
If your aim isn’t true enough to enjoy the commando I highly doubt you’ll enjoy being outshot at range by people in BR starts.
It definitely needs a ranged weapon start. Obviously noobs who can’t aim are gonna get mad at that because their spray and pray weapon is godly in this game.
The maps feel so unbalanced if one team has all ranged weapons and you have to wait at a weapon rack for one to spawn. Idc what anyone says it needs ranged starts for sure
