Dude you little proved his point. Starting with worse weapons forces you to get closer to fights or find weapons.
This is a silly argument and simple not true. You have one person every once in a while but that’s some people’s play style. Saying people don’t move just isn’t accurate.
No thank you.
Past Halos were far too BR friendly. It was super fun to use but it outclassed weapons that were designed for close-range… in close range. That’s why automatics in Halo 3 and Reach barely got used.
Infinite’s BTB is more sandbox-friendly than any other BTB, and that’s commendable. As part of their sandbox refining, they removed the DMR and gave some of its range to the BR. In fact, I think that this BR has the longest red-reticle range in the series. So, implementing BR starts for maps that were designed around the AR/Sidekick loadout would be a disaster. Combat will devolve into long-range altercations with some close range encounters every now and then, but the kill feed will be overwhelmed with BR headshots.
If this is the way you want to play Infinite, I don’t want to stop you. I’m fully in favor of having a separate BTB playlist for BR starts as long as the population can support it, and it should be able to. Just don’t stop the rest of us from playing BTB the way we like it.
Thanks for proving my point exactly. BR starts kill the sandbox.
You just answered your own question.
It is pound for pound the most efficient weapon, it’s a work horse weapon.
But that kills the sandbox. You want as many weapons to be viable at their engagements otherwise why bother making any other weapon for the game?
If you value ‘BR Slayer’ as a competition between BR users, fine. SWAT will come eventually. But that’s not game design. There’s a patchwork of elements and player types that need a healthy sandbox.
We are not arguing from a position that we can’t use or deal with BR. You guys are in fact arguing that you can’t workaround how the various weapons are intended. I seen it since 2004; dudes are using weapons way out of their role and then they come on the forums and argue this and that should be spawn starts, buffed, nerfed, etc.
And what’s frustrating is eventually you guys do win. BR starts became default in past Halos, Overwatch diversity got annihilated, Bungie just now revealed an across the board nerf to abilities. These devs never tell players they should probably Git Gud. Make tutorial videos, tweet tips, etc. They just cave. Halo will become a BR fest and 343 will have wasted money making any other weapon because you guys whined about this everytime you couldn’t find a new CE Pistol.
Kill no improve. Why don’t you get this.
Interesting. Okay:
You spawn with a BR. You see a Needler on the wall. The Needler is not exactly a post-shield pop swap weapon, you gotta hold it primary. Ah, but why would you ever hold it primary, a BR could beat a Needler 1v1. And the whole match is BR starts. The Needler will basically never get picked up outside of novelty.
Articulate for me how this is an improvement to the sandbox?
It’s the same as the Halo 3 BR. They have the exact same TTK
Isn’t that just preference? I personally wouldn’t trade out an AR for the needler. This whole sandbox narrative is just blown to pieces by the fact you spawn neck deep in power weapons anyway. It’s hardly exploring and I don’t trade AR or Pistol for what you would consider weaker than the BR regardless.
This particular formula isn’t the greatest admittedly. I’ll give an example, I’m a Reach guy, played it for a very long time, anyway on a lot of the maps they gave incentive to push out and fight for control, whether it was a banshee on Boneyard or the Sniper on Utopie, if you didn’t get moving on the map and push for them, you would suffer. I feel like this is what is missing from the current BTB and you’re right, a lot of people I could see just sitting back at the base cross mapping with precision weapons but I put that down to map design, no incentive.
I’ve said on here before, people play for different reasons, me personally I look to drop 30+ kills and anything above 5 deaths is a bad game, I’m just out to slay from the start. If you enjoy the whole picking weaker weapons up and giving them a go, good for you. The biggest issue here is they’ve got a divided BTB community, I could sit here all night telling you that my way of playing is more fun but it’s preference.
At this stage I’d be appalled at 343 for taking AR/Pistol start away from such a wide audience enjoying it, it’s not my thing but my thing has been taken and I know how it feels, I barely touch BTB now.
It just needs a ranked BTB making, the map designs would need to be altered for like I said, incentive and both sides will be happy. Hell, I’d even help structure those maps if I had a way of offering.
Your point? Halo for YEARS has had BR starts in most of its modes. A precision weapon is part of what makes Halo. …Halo
The utility of a weapon isn’t subjective. If we’re playing a 1v1 money match and we get to choose between a BR and AR - nobody is going to choose AR. I don’t care if you have an AR tattoo on your arm and you have an AR fanclub.
This is not an argument against the sandbox point we’re making.
Well by that logic, lets say no weapon start?
That has nothing to do with the logic I’m making, you’re just trying to make this a zero sum game.
Ironically, though, that’s an interesting idea. It’s essentially the pace of a battle royale. But our points about protecting the sandbox still stands either way.
Your argument is literally - We must spawn with AR’s because it makes the sandbox more alive, yes? It adds use to other weapons, right? But this is by your preference. Like I said above, YOU would swap your AR or Pistol for a needler or some of the other new weapons, I wouldn’t. I’ve walked up, seen weapon spawns and walked away because by my preference it wouldn’t be worth picking up.
You’re also viewing it in a very limited perspective. There’s a bunch of other scenarios than just 1v1. I have had horrible teammates in the past and won games because of the skill gap precision offers. I was able to get some crazy multi kills because of precision, I’ve stopped objectives being capped because of precision. What you’re failing to see is not everybody views the game the same way as you, I personally don’t care for spawning with guns that give me no real range while someone is stalking my spawn with a BR and all I can do is run at them spraying or let them have at it while I run and leave my team to be destroyed. Not everyone cares for having to root through weapon spawns to grab something before they leave spawn or be annihilated by the many power weapons that exist.
Your perspective is yours, you can’t dictate that everyone must hold the same values on the map as you. Myself and many of my friends loved the original BTB formula it’s why we are here right now, your desire to hunt for weapons doesn’t hold the same weight for everyone. So i’ll say it again, it’s preference my guy, you probably would hate the things we value which I’m guessing you do judging by your posts. We are not forcing our desires upon you and explaining why your preference is inferior. People here are expressing they want BR starts because it’s what they enjoy, there is no right answer.
No. Imagine needing of a crutch weapon for casual playlist.
Dude.
My “preference” allows you to choose your role by simply picking up a BR at it’s station. It even has a nifty blue bar telling you when it arrives.
If we all start with BR, it’s responsible to the team that you don’t swap for anything other than a power weapon. Because even if one “prefers” the AR or whatever - your enemies probably won’t. And it’s mechanically negligence to willingly put yourself in a suboptimal combat state.
We’re not saying this as “AR fanboys”, it’s objectively healthier for the sandbox.
So because that’s your preference I have to go look for the BR every time I spawn or stand around and wait for it to come up? Is there anything else we can do to help you enjoy your game?
This whole sandbox your talking about matters to you. You don’t speak for everyone. BTB has done pretty well for itself with precision starts for as long as BTB has been a thing. Do you even know what happened when they implemented AR start into Reach BTB? The playlist died, quick. DMR start is still going strong. You’re trying to preach that it’s healthier like you know it’s what the majority want. I don’t care that it puts a few more weapons in play, Why do you not understand that the game type people became fans of had precision start? I can play your AR start, drop a good amount of kills and still tell you, I don’t find it enjoyable one bit.
You have the BTB that you enjoy right now, does it really bother you that much that other people prefer something different? Believe it or not, people aren’t asking for BR starts to trigger you. If you can’t deal with people disagreeing with what you want, that’s too bad.
Meh. The AR and sidekick both have good range and quicker ttk than the BR. The BTB maps provide plenty of cover to get in close and take out people.
I’d rather keep these starts than go back to the “camp in base and play range” meta of Halo 3, Reach, 4 & 5 BTB.
Edit: The MCC version of those games. The 360 versions had a mix of AR and BR starts for 3/Reach.
AR and Sidekick have a faster TTK than the BR.
You are functioning on old halo logic.
Feel free to keep calling them bad.
Just know you are objectively wrong.
hell no. you do that and the game goes full sweat. I want to have a good time and relax, not leave my computer pissed off whether i win or lose and smelling like i need another shower.
