BTB map sizes

Okay I’ve thought long and hard about this and I can’t see the logic. Maybe somebody can shed some light:

Settler: approx 92 units x 40 units (at widest point, very narrow at points), relatively open
Complex: approx 77 units x 57 units, relatively segregated
Harvest: approx 82 units x 53 units, relatively segregated

So why the heck is settler in BTB and the other two not?

Woahh too many numbers there. The map sizes are big to make sprint worth using. It’s just the maps themselves kinda suck.

Take a look at this chart.

If you look at Ravine’s grassy knoll (for a lack of a better name), you will see it is very close to the small end of BTB maps. It isn’t too small, and it does have the necessary geometry to support 16 players (gradual hills, the rock walkway, sheer linear distance).

The problem with that map is that it is boring…

Go into forge with Complex and take a look at the vehicle palette and you will see why it cannot be used for BTB. The same is probably true with Harvest.

I would have loved to see a Wraith on Complex, but people are correct in saying it would be a setting duck. A banshee would be picked out of the sky with DMRs. A scorpion would be an aircraft carrier in a bath tub. And 343i/CA stated that hogs on Complex would get “caught” in too many of the narrow passages.

I love taking the ghost up on top of the center building. Can you imagine taking a rocket hog up there? That would be hilarious!

BTW, for anyone looking at his numbers and my own, I average the lengths and widths to compensate for gaps in playing area or extra hang over play area. I suspect Mr Saddo was taking the extreme distances and not the actual playable area into account, but perhaps he can speak to why his numbers are typically larger than my own.

Answer is very simple: only 4 maps for second most popular playlist (that is 4v4 Team Slayer) of second most popular shooter franchise (that is Halo) would look stupid. They had to add something but Forge maps are unplayable because of frame rate issues (Complex actually too…).

I’ve always wanted to play complex in BTIS.
