BTB is so littered with network tampering

It’s utterly unplayable.

Every single game I go into consists of enemies that teleport constantly when being fired at or don’t take damage when hit.

No, it’s not my connection. My nat is open and my dl and ul speeds are both above 15mbps

It might not be tampering. It could just be other players with weak connections that are ruining it for everyone.

I think this is true more than most imagine. I think it is worse than Halo 3 or even Reach, not because 343i is in charge of anything having to do with Halo 4, but because the technology to mess with people’s network connections (DOS attacks, etc.) simply grows easier for young high school kids who are technically capable as time goes on. I think this is something that 343i needs to consider in their strategy of network coding overall - that they will see a younger population that can manipulate the network grow.

I was playing with one guy one day and he was recounting a recent game in which one of the other people in the party tried to intimidate him (and he did too) by telling him where he was, what his IP address was, etc. From the story as he related it to me, that person was just a young kid. And I was left wondering, how is it that a young kid not only has the technical prowess to pull off something like that (and I think he said that this kid kicked him from the game), but also the personality to behave like that to strangers who are easily 10 years older than he was?

We live in a new era of self importance of the techie kiddie…

Some thing might not be right I tried to play about 20 games today every single one was laggy some even where canceled half way through.

There was also a lot of re-votes happening as well which I’ve never seen before. For instance once the map was picked as it counted down it would restart the vote.

I was thinking though you know how Top Gear mark laps done on their coarse as a wet lap if it’s wet. Maybe they should mark matches on people histories as a laggy match. So that if people look at your history and think “oh, he’s not doing so great but it was laggy.”

I find lag tampering to happen a lot in objective based games too.

Have you ever considered the possibility it is the game to blame.

If people with awful connections have host often (and not everyone is cheating) it’s pretty obvious the host selection is awful and broken.

It uses the same stupid system of earlier Halo games where you pull host often if you’ve not played the game much or at all on the Xbox you’re using at present. Play often enough with people that you give high latency/packet loss to and soon enough you will start to get host rarely if at all.

The internet has no end-to-end QoS so when someone with an awful connection plays on your host or vice versa the game can’t tell who’s to blame.

It’s a constant cycle of new players with awful connections pulling host because they have no host record and everyone else having to suffer, what’s worse this game doesn’t host change regardless of how badly the host’s connection degrades during the match.

The only times I see blackscreen is when the host quits which isn’t often.

The lack of any real bandwidth testing is what’s to blame and result is far worse lag in BTB since many people don’t have the upstream performance to sustain a lag free game of BTB.

I’ve never had a pleasant experience in BTB, just too many damn people. Such a -Yoink-.

The black screen happened to me about 5-10 times each game today 5 being about the minimum times it happened.

A lot of games are going fine with out any signs of lagging then as soon as who ever was originally winning suddenly starts to loose the lag hit’s almost immanently then it goes away again near the end.

The thing with the lag is if it’s just right they can’t be killed head shots on a downed shield and the shields with go down that’s about the only thing do nothing except a head shot from a sniper rifle always kills them. So the only way to win a lagging match is with sniper rifles if it is the right kind of lagging.

This could very well be the problem. It’s so bad it’s difficult to think of it initially in ways other than tampering.

> to behave like that to strangers who are easily 10 years older than he was?

The internet has given people of all ages and walks of life artificial courage. They say and do what they want because there is almost no chance of getting caught.

Not tampering, just really bad lag. Yeah BTB can get real laggy at times.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. The problem is shared internet connections and network set ups that are NOT optimised. Try using QoS on your router and give your Xbox the highest priority possible!

If you suspect tampering report the individual and then avoid them, all you can do

I had this exact same problem about a month ago it was ridiculous. It was really bad for about 3 weeks. I still get booted for no reason but not as often. Its really irritating when you are doing well leading in points and get booted or the whole game resets for everybody. That shoudln’t happen with Microsofts most popular game franchise.

2013 and we still have to deal with this crap… Get a clue and put in dedicated servers 343.

100%

This

No one is cheating u in Halo 4 BTB - there’s no reason forthem to do it…
