Does anyone else hate BTB Heavies as much as I do?
Honestly, WTF were they thinking besides, “Let’s please the noobs.”
You spawn, 10 vehicles in your face, rockets, lasers, plasma launchers, fuel rods, wraiths, everything everywhere.
Map control? Forget it. Any vehicles you have in tactical positions will be raped in 5 seconds because that’s how long it takes for the -Yoink!- laser and rockets to respawn. And Asphalt… OMG Asphalt. Quite possibly the worst map of any game I’ve ever played. Way too many vehicles in a confined space and frankly, the Reach engine cannot handle it.
Vehicles randomly shooting off at 10x the speed of light and exploding whilst the Xbox has to render all the custom forge walls, 1 at a time. So the FPS drops to nearly 20.
I hate how often it gets voted, BTB Heavies has nearly ruined Big Team Battle for me.
(BTW I’d like some NON-User made maps. I’m sick of Asphalt, Rasu, Delta Facility. If I want new maps, I’ll get the DLC, which I did, and now I can’t play it because they took out Premium Battle/Slayer/Squad DLC/Anniversary BTB. So frustrating. >:(
I often do just fine (and sometimes prefer) being a foot soldier, even without a power weapon. Power weapons do respawn quickly, and I often avoid vehicles because of it, but you just have to coordinate your team to get to those weapons before the enemy team does.

Perhaps the difference is that you search and play with a party. In that case, it’s actually possible to coordinate your team.
Alot of us (perhaps foolishly) dive in alone for various reasons, and the resulting experience is far less enjoyable.
I roll with teams as much as possible but even then… Like I said total map control on heavies in incredibly difficult even with a team. And I don’t play with uber tryhards who are good enough for that lol. i wouldn’t want to. I just hate heavies altogether.

For the most part, yes, I do play and search with a party! But even when I’m not, I still mostly enjoy the gametype!

I’m a 0.7 k/d, so although an Inheritor, I guess I’ll fall into the “noob” category. I happen to like Heavies, and vote for it every time I can. When I die, I can hop into whatever vehicle is available or grab a weapon and jump back into the fray.
To me, your Nirvana is Hell - yet another game of BTB Slayer on Hemorrhage where I’m getting spawn-sniped the whole freaking game because the other team has gotten map control and no one on my side will shoot at the people up on the ridge…
I go into BTB solo, play Heavies, and never touch a vehicle unless I happen to come across my opponent’s tank before they do.
I stay on foot because that is how the team REALLY wins. In a vehicle you’re getting 1 point per kill while I’m scoring 2 points. I’m consistently in the top 2 players on my team in BTB Heavies despite never touching a vehicle simply because I go for those 2 point headshots.
Yeah the newbs actually have a chance to kill you, but otherwise it would be completely one sided, and thus not very sporting.
It’s ok if players help out, I was in a game on Hemorrage just recently and there was a Wraith camped at the blue cave / red teleport, we had two snipers shooting at the red base , they could easily have destroyed the Wraith but chose not to,
Eventually I got it with the plasma grenade launcher but I died four times at the hands of the Wraith getting to it, the snipers could have dealt it serious damage, even if they just clipped it’s wings,
I play a lot of BTB / Heavies, but I do despair sometimes, I have no issues with snipers racking up kills but not if the Wraith is taking two or three to their one.
I agree with just about everything you said. However, I like the custom maps, but I want them to be converted into regulay BTB maps, because Heavies really does ruin the competitive nature of BTB. Heavies would be best played in an Action Sack playlist.
I gotta disagree, I totally love BTB heavies.
One of the main reasons i play BTB if i’m honest.
I guess it all depends on who you get matched with too.
I tend to play this with alot of friends.
I thrive in the chaos and utilize it collect kills and medals. Heavies has been one of the best things 343 has done and the proof is the overwhelming amount of times it gets voted in.
It has also provided me with yet another stark reminder of the unbelievable contrast between the forum and the actual playlist of Reach.
The problem is not the BTB Heavies, it’s the lack of option’s for much else. With this last t.u. your options are so limited the game isn’t much fun anymore from what it started out as. You hardly see any maps in dlc anymore, I’m so tired of these stupid custom maps and not actual maps that came with the game. 343 has disappointed many with the direction they have chosen to go on reach.
I like the idea of Heavies being in action sack or something.
And I find the reason it gets voted so often is not because it’s so good, but the exact opposite.
I see poor players picking heavies because it takes little skill and effort to do well because there’s power weapons and vehicles lying around everywhere.
And yes, I know it’s big team, hence vehicles and power weapons, but the amount there are in Heavies is just absurd.
And yeah all the Forge made maps on there really piss me off, especially considering there’s no more DLC maps. Honestly? Replacing my $40 worht of DLC with that?
