BTB filled with AFK's every game

Its getting beyond a joke, nearly every game 3,4 sometimes 5 afk.
Prolly because it’s a game type or map without weapons they cant do challenges on.
You created a system that affects gameplay & it absolutely sucks the soul out of the game.

Whilst on the subject of AFK’s in BTB, Stockpile is the worst offender, nobody wants to play it so as soon as that game comes up people afk cos if they leave they might temp MM ban (I got 4-5 stockpile in a row today, one flag then another 3 stockpile in a row) If I quit all them stockpile games I prolly would have temp ban.
The population is dwindling isn’t it time to start trimming the fat.

  1. Remove game modes & variants that are unpopular from the hoppers, this might even condense the population a little & help matchmaking.
Or give players the option to play the type of game they want, maybe more players will stick around if they can choose to play the games they want & you will get a clearer picture of what people dont want to play, its not rocket science, though tweaking the UI to do this might as well be pfft!
  2. Deal with problem players that are constantly afk ruining others games, driving players that want to play away.
  3. Start doing something!
Yeah you patched a glitch on a map quick but that was only cos it affects the integrity of ranked & hcs, in the meanwhile you are leaving social to rot.
Here is a clue most new players start in social, if they have bad gaming experience in social they wont stick around to progress into ranked & possibly bring new blood into the competitive scene.

Honestly if 343i if you are not going to listen to the community about all the things going wrong, all the things driving long term halo fans/players away and not get busy making changes to improve & steer this game back on course to make it a better experience you might as well just shut the servers down & stop wasting your own time & everyone else’s.

Sounds like people are starting to tank their mmr or just afk for challenges

With the combination of strict sbmm and the stupid challenge system being the only way to get xp i don’t blame them

There is no strict SBMM (you can even get people ranging from onyx to low-gold in the same match and not matching together). Especially not in BTB, where the skill gaps are even way bigger then in social. And most matches are not even balanced either.

AFK people are mostly just XP-farming (because as you say: just completing matches are the only way to get XP next to the challenges) or are just not interested in the gamemode and afraid of a tempban for quitting.

Never thought of that TBH, might be.
Whatever the reason they are doing it for it needs to be stopped 343 need to really get on this, surly the sbmm/mmr can track/identify afk stat trends on a player?
if not it needs too & if so matchmaking should start matching them together & putting them on servers together out the way of players wanting to play.
Or just straight up start banning them, its nearly every BTB game & its pure toxic & destroying the game for the people that wanna play & try have fun.
The game has enough issues it doesnt need these players making things worse.

It hits harder in 4v4 I feel you man. Why don’t people just go and AFK In a more popular game.

False if there was no strict sbmm we wouldn’t be placed into server regions we don’t belong in
In the middle of the afternoon

If there was no strict sbmm in social it wouldn’t be as if not more sweaty the ranked playlist

lol why wouldn’t they just XP farm in bot slayer? It’s faster, some challenges can be done there, and if you choose to AFK the match, your teammates aren’t screwed.

In fact, BTB’s gotta be the worst place to do that.

Heck if you want a quick way thats not bot matches you load up fiesta or swat as those games tend to end quickly

  1. Middle of afternoon is not realy peak hours (that would be start of the evening)
  2. It has more to do with players available at that moment. The game wants to get you into a game ASAP, that creates that you into other regions. I am an average player from the EU, so if i play during peak hours, there are always more then enough players around my skill. Yet during peak hours i also sometimes get put into US-servers or get matches with skill ranges from Onyx to Gold-2 or from Diamond-6 to Silver-4. That is simply not strict SBMM

And it’s also not like this is new to Infinite. On MCC i even got placed into US servers way more then in Infinite if i don’t limit the servers. The only difference is that on MCC you can limit servers, wich is not available (yet) in Infinite.

Excactly the opposite. Ranked has (way) stricter SBMM, so making SBMM more strict will make it less sweaty. Because ranked has a more strict SBMM the skill gaps are often way smaller, wich makes it so people don’t have to heavy cary as much and others aren’t as outskilled as much. That way the better player can count on the teammates more and those teammates can also do more. This makes it so it’s less sweaty.

Perhaps they think that in BTB it wouldn’t be noticed that much if they AFK there? AFK-farmers are weird (especially because it’s bannable), so who knows if they even think…

In my experience Bot Bootcamp is quicker then Fiesta or Swat, but that experience can differ ofcourse. Especially CTF on Bot Bootcamp is superquick. In my experience Fiesta and Swat take around 7 mins, while Bot Bootcamp takes around 5 and CTF on BB even 3 mins.

Yet in order to find other onyx player so you can sweat aginst them it puts you in matches with 150+ms ping. Keep telling yourself that the sbmm is loose but it isn’t
If the sbmm was really loose, you’d find golds and silvers way before switching to servers on the other side of the world

My rank is now gold and i have fought against/with diamond and onyx-players multiple times. So it’s clearly not putting onyxplayers against onyxplayers, but it only tries to balance the teams (although it even fails that), but the ranks within teams can very extremely.

The real problem is that the system wants to get matches as fast as possible, so it doesn’t wait untill there are enough players available in your region, but if there aren’t in the first handfull of seconds, it already looks in other regions. And it’s also not that those will be around your skill, but they can be weak players too. I have even put in matches on US servers (i’m from EU) where i completely dominated that match and all others where US players (i was much more skilled then the rest). You cannot tell me it’s strict SBMM if the game pulls me across the ocean just to put me against way weaker players. A match like that could easily be found on EU-servers if the game just took a couple of seconds longer to find other players.

This might be good for Australia-players who otherwise would have very long search times since there are not that much players, but for highly populated regions like Europe and the US it would have been better if the game searching a lil longer before finding players on other regions.

Sorry, this is not an SBMM problem, but a problem of the game prefering search time above ping times.

edit: made my post a bit more readable and removing some writing errors.

If I get it frequently in matches I start recording video’s of them and reporting them to 343i. They allow you to attach video’s for evidence, and I’ve gotten good results out of doing it.

The amount of players I see AFK, I would end up spending more time recording & submitting reports, that would be more like a job than playing games having fun.
343i dont pay me so why should I have to waste my time creating reports with video evidence.
Game should have inbuilt report function.
The games back end telemetry should be tracking trends & flagging players with high instances of afk & they should be getting dealt with as it is damaging the game.

As for the subject of sbmm being loose/tight does it even matter cos if a high enough percentage of players are purposely lowering their mmr by whatever means then the system becomes broken & ruins the game for genuine players of all skill levels & drives them away.
You cant have a game with matchmaking system function properly if you don’t police the system & that responsibility lies with 343i.

BTB has more players per game & a wider range of skill across all players so might actually be more effective at lowering mmr?
That being said though I think most of the AFK stems from modes they don’t want to play & modes/maps that aren’t compatible with their current challenges.
Like I said in OP post stockpile is the worst offender for people going AFK in, 343i must see this in the telemetry?
Trying to force game types on players that are clearly unpopular, its pointless & benefits no one it just creates negativity in so many ways.
343i need to trim the fat & focus on what people like playing.

Y’all must be new here. Welcome to Halo.

They’re not going to go away if you do nothing though.

It’s ok, most of the afk people are being more productive than the people who aren’t

If I was new I probably wouldn’t be this frustrated & just move on.

The problem is in the game, a means to report/flag should be in the game.
Having to make vids then use a website to report is jumping through hoops & the reason I created this thread is because I see so many in nearly every game, to vid doc & report them all would be using to much of my time & resources.
It is not my job to police negative trends ruining the game from within.

Sad fact this is true in slayer games when you have several random BK feeders going 2-18, 3-14 & 5-12 there is times I think these players are bots but then I see them with a needler or pulse rifle missing all shots & I’m like nup defo human scrub as bots never miss with those weapons.

I think if you want to lower MMR it is way more effective to get into battles and just miss a lot of shots. You get killed more and you get a low accuracy.
