BTB CTF in this game is a nightmare. The return time on the flag is balanced for small scale, 4v4, gameplay and does not transition to BTB well at all. Every game ends up being a defensive standoff that ends at time instead of one team actually winning by making 3 caps.
The return time on the flag has to be either doubled or on a set timer. The way it is now makes it too easy for a team playing defense to return the flag, and doesn’t punish teams for letting the flag out of their control. Likewise, bringing the 1-hit beat down with flag back would allow solo players to actually contribute to their team.
The settings are well balanced for small scale stuff, but they don’t transition to BTB at all. In small scale it is not uncommon for a single person to hold the flag for the entirety of a flag cap run. In BTB this isn’t the case. Multiple people usually touch a flag on a BTB flag run and because the return timer is so fast it makes it so defendeders always have the advantage. This can be seen by the huge amount of games that end at time instead of by one team reaching the score limit.
Totally agree. It’s a real bear to get a flag capped against a team with at least a small idea of how to shoot their weapon or throw grenades. Really have to hike up the return time.
Jokes aside BTB CTF is my favorite btb game mode. Sure I can do slayers but there be those guys that go 1 kill and 20 deaths. And yes there is Strongholds but that game mode devolves to ring around the rosey. Which i don’t mind but CTF is my joy of showing I can defend or offend against 7 other enemies and succeed. Not something that I can do in slayer, plus I like long games so overtime is great for me.
That one-hit melee really does need to come back. Its practically impossible to get the flag out of the enemy base without some kind of support…and your team USUALLY ISNT THERE TO SUPPORT YOU.

This is a problem with Halo 5 as a whole. They basically expect you to be playing with a team at all times, and have done seemingly everything in their power to punish solo players. 1-hit beat down NEEDS to come back. Even if it’s only in BTB CTF. It’s impossible to get the flag out by yourself, and if you can’t help by yourself then you can’t really help at all. This is the exact reason why one person can both capture and stop a capture in Warzone. Why they don’t carry that through all of the gametypes, I will never understand.
