I think it is 8v8 because BTB is starting out as a Ranked playlist. If/when they bring social playlists it might bump up to 12v12.

Despite the whininess of “Should’ve been included at launch” How are you not excited for BTB? Using vehicles without having to use reqs, 4 new maps, and Playing with more than 3 other friends. I’m stoked!
I am also going to be excited about Forge when it comes out even though you will still be bitter that it wasn’t included at launch.
