bsangel on DLC: do it yourself.

The following is a Twitter conversation between me and bsangel.

Me: Can playlists’ populations be divided between those with DLC and those without? I haven’t played BTB Breakpoint literally ever.
bsangel: We’ve adjusted the Matchmaking algorithm to match players who have DLC with other players who have DLC more often.
Me: When? I’ve heard this before and I still never see Noble or Defiant DLC in BTB, and I never get Breakpoint in Invasion.
bsangel: Try going into matchmaking with other people who have the DLC.
Me: Seriously, that’s 343’s solution? “We can’t figure out how to match you with other DLC owners so do it yourself”?

no response.

Doesn’t 343 understand that the purpose of Matchmaking is to make the match for you? If I was going to do it myself why would I even need Matchmaking? This is such a lazy attitude on their part. Why don’t they just split up the population into DLC owners and non-DLC owners?

Unless they fix this, or unless they explicitly guarantee that Halo 4 DLC will be available at all times, I’m never buying their map packs again.

Well you do seriously increase your chances if you have a full team of DLC owners, you only need to find, for example, four more players, with the algorithm in effect, is a lot more common.

The reason it doesn’t function as well as it can, Reach’s DLC sold poorly.

Just like if you want a team you can trust, don’t go in with “randoms.”

Look out for community “events” where achievement hunting and playlist partying are happening so you can join in with those with maps, if you can’t use the Recruitment page that is.

The thing is you also have to make sure the other team has DLC as well. So to get DLC in BTB, you’d need to organize 15 people. At that point you might as well be doing custom games.

It sold so poorly and there are only a few more months left in Reach’s life so why not make the DLC free?

Certainly would add to the population since its drawing in more people as well as adding more replayability to the game.

As much as I would love to see that, I don’t see it happening, Halo Wars still has full priced DLC and ultimately it is Microsoft’s decision.

They need to just require DLC in Objective/BTB. Boom problem solved. Perhaps slash prices of DLC.

A spring/summer DLC sale HAS to be in the works, I would be surprised if it wasn’t.

But the problem isn’t nearly as invasive as the OP claims.

As much as i would like to see the DLC played more by regular players.
I wouldn’t be best pleased as a full paying customer to see the DLC go for free.
Reduce the prices, Yes. But not free.

I don’t even like the DLC maps that much anyway, which is why I don’t really care. I just bought them to get the cheevo’s for them. =)

Speaking of invasive, what do you think of the fact that I’ve only had one game of Breakpoint in my past 100 Invasion games?

I have seen an increase in the about of DLC popping up actually in the last week or two…I finally even got to play a BTB 2-flag on Highlands which was a blast. I would still like for them to increase whatever it is they have been doing to increase the chances.

Your thread’s a bit misleading, IMO. The algorithms are in place and DO work. I’ve gone in with one other person and found games on DLC maps and gone in with 7 others and not found DLC, or vice versa. Ultimately, it’s all just the luck of the draw.

If the parameters are set so you only match up with other players who own the DLC, it’s likely that wait times would be increased and then people would complain about having to “wait for forever” to find matches. Either way, people complain.

The problem is if they do make BTB (or anything DLC required) people are going to start crying left and right.

Anyone remember when the March Update first went into full effect and it was saying BTB requires all maps?!

People were flooding here complaining… =/

What gives. _(’.’)_/

In my experience, I don’t usually get DLC when searching alone but partying up with at least one friend that has all of the DLC significantly increases the chance of it appearing. I even saw the Breakpoint Heavies map as a voting option once in BTB - it was voted down in favour of Hemorrhage though :frowning:

There’s nothing misleading about it, check my history. I play a ton of BTB and DLC only shows up like 1% of the time. And yeah I’d be willing to wait a lot longer for a match to be guaranteed to have a DLC option in voting and I think most people wouldn’t mind, as long as it was opt-in.

DLC maps do show up quite often for me in BTB…

I think you misunderstood my point…

ehh, that’s rough for you, I would understand wanting more Breakpoint invasion after buying it, sure… But I can also say that what you experienced has not been my experience.

It appears that it’s actually NOT your experience either…

That was in the NMP playlist. Note how the last game was almost a year ago.
