'Brutezooka' a interesting concept...

Okay so during the course of Halo we have had some interesting iterations of the Jiralhanae technological pallet… starting with the ‘Covenant Re-skinned’ Plasma Rifle, to the vastly unique Retro appearances… which are relevant to the Brute Shot, Spiker, Mauler and Gravity Hammer… my new concept would ‘fill’ the Anti-Vehicular counterpart… but chuck a unique spin on it.

Okay with each new weapon we suggest, we have to look at how are they going to be a unique addition to the Halo Sandbox? Well we look at their general counterparts…

  • United Nations Space Command - M79 Rocket Launcher - Forward-Directed, Anti-Air Heat Seeking, Explosive-on-hit, 2 Shots Per Magazine, 1-Shot Kill

  • Covenant Empire - Type-33 Fuel Rod Gun - Forward-Directed, Bounceable, Explosive-on-hit, 5 Shots Per Magazine, 1-Shot Kill.

  • Promethean Ecumene - Z-390 Incineration Cannon - Forward Directed, Area Of Effect, Explosive-on-hit, 1 Shot Per Magazine, 1-Shot Kill.

And so we can better define this concept…

  • Jiralhanae Packs - Type-53 Bouncing Mortar - Arch-Directed, Area Of Effect, Rollable, Explosive-on-timer, 3 Shots Per Magazine, 1-Shot Kill.

This ‘Brutezooka’ will act more, or less, like a small Mortar with bouncing capabilities…

The weapon would fire a lobbed ‘Bruteball’ which would be the size of a small canonball, and act like a large spike grenade…

The bomb would be on a 3-second timer… so could roll a few metres and then explode, scattering spikes in an area of effect…

This way it would be great for clearing out rooms and setting up ambushes, as well as creating hazards to Vehicular combat.

Not entirely sure how I feel about this…and I don’t know why.

As much as I kind of like the weapon idea…I can’t get past the fact that basically, it’s just an O.P Brute Shot. There’s also the fact that it doesn’t really fill any niche and really (imo), isn’t warranted.

Seems to me like you just want a brute heavy weapon simply because there isn’t one. So we may as well by that logic throw in a brute sniper and support weapon too.

That said, I may have just missed your point xD

Edit: Also, I think Brute Mortar would be a better name than Brutezooka, since it’s nothing really like a bazooka but that’s just me.

~ Duck.

I’m with Duck on this one. It’s an interesting idea and I think its sufficiently different so as not to be completely redundant, but at the same time halo already has so many weapons, and we just got more with the introduction of the Promethians, so I think it isn’t really needed. I think I would prefer that 343 fleshes out those weapons and makes them more interesting before adding more in less necessary categories.

Very neat idea. I’d love to see a mortar-type weapon in Halo, but as a standalone weapon (like the RL, PC, IC) it might be too cumbersome. And as said above, the Brute shot already exists…

However, this idea would be really cool if it were something like a turret, or Halo 3’s Missile Launcher. A stationary emplacement, or something that has heavy hit power but at the expense of very restricted mobility.

Either way now I can’t stop saying Brutezooka…

How is the Brutezooka better than Reach’s Grenade Launcher?

Here is a concept for a unique Brute anti vehicle weapon:

https://forums.halowaypoint.com/yaf_postsm2945338_Spiked-Assault-Wheel.aspx

Just keep the Brute Shot. Mix in Reaches Grenade Launchers abilities with it. Holding the trigger expends 2 ammo, but gives it Reachs Grenade Launchers EMP/Explosive Grenade. With all it’s bouncy, rollable, and Timed fun. Brute Shot contains 6 shots per mag with normal rounds.

Edit: By expends 2 rounds, I mean it shoots one…but uses 2.

The brute shot is a six-shot weapon, giving it EMP capabilities would put it totally over the top in the overpowered category.

What made the pro pipe so great was its one shot capacity. It was brutal against infrantry and a giant pest for vehicles, but it took skill to wield.

Plus an EMP attack doesn’t really seem Brute-ish. I would lean more toward spikes, saws, and razors.

So like a regular mortar? If its anything like BF4 then it could add a new element of teamwork in the game.

In BF4 I sit back and support my team by firing mortars on snipers, vehicles, or enemies that are flanking. Of course this has a display which shows a portion of the map and players on it, something not really Halo-ish.

The Brute Mortar could have a red circle on the ground that shows where a shell may hit. Since the weapon have to be stationary like a turret, it would have limited range. A small bit of skill is required since you’ll need to lead and time your shots. Teamwork will also be required if a target is behind a building or if your team needs mortar fire on enemy positions by giving call outs.

Damage can be about the same as a grenade but alittle more, players can see the arc before it hits them so it won’t be OP. It can also serve as a way to ward off enemy vehicles if they attack a base but a rocket launcher would be preferred.

There should be no advanced targeting system for a Brute Mortar Tube. With practice, players learned how to best deploy the Reach Grenade Launcher’s grenade, in regard to both angle of fire and trigger hold time before release, without some advanced HUD reticle. Players will learn where to aim the Mortar Tube and how long to hold the trigger before releasing in order to hit their intended target.
