Brutes???

I can’t be the only one that wants to see them return. They were such a fun enemy type. I’m sure they can find some way to add them to the story that makes sense.

I bet we will see them return in some capacity.

I’d like them to return, but somewhere between the previous iterations in terms of difficulty. In Halo 2, they were a nightmare, but in Halo 3 & Reach, they were way too easy to kill. Somewhere in between …

Anyhow, it was fun to verse a more interactive enemy.

Lydus and his Blood Pack! >:D

Give me the Halo 3: ODST Brutes! Give me the Chopper! Give me the Brute Shot! Give me the Brute Plasma Rifle! Give me the Halo 3 Gravity Hammer!! MY BODY IS READY!!!

Perhaps to be ragdolled by the Chieftain Gravity Hammer and charm… brute magnetism wins over all the Spartans… they just drop to their knees. haha

Yup!

But bigger. More bad @$$ and far more savage!
Also: relatively rare.

They need to be that shock force. The kind of enemy you encounter not that often, like Hunters. That enemy that makes it clear that crap is about to hit the fan if you meet them.

Bring them back in small packs, with a tendency for close quarter combat and some savage hand to hand stuff. In H4 we had that QTE with the Elite in the elevator. I wouldn’t mind it if Brutes going berserk could trigger some awesome QTE events. Imagine a blood thirsty Brute face right in your face, drooling over your helmet, trying to bite your face off…

That’s the kind of Brute I want to see return.

it would be awesome to use the fist of rukt

No quicktime events, please. Just have them go berserk like they did in Halo 2. I want the game to retain its fluidity and freedom of movement and avoid the failures of the modern shooter. Quicktime events are disconcerting and ruin the immersion for me. I like the control Halo offers.

There is no other way to have good CQC action in a shooter however. What they did before, including H2, was to just push you away. It needs to be more savage than that. Ideally they should pick you up and toss you around. They should try to floor you and rip your head off. That is Brute behavior.

I’m not propagating constant QTE’s when fighting them, but the occasional occurance to make the Brutes more frightening is very welcome. Besides: although QTE’s certainly aren’t the best gameplay mechanics around it is a bit too short sighted to say they’re all worthless. A game like the previous Turok is a prime example of QTE’s being done really well. It still gave you control, but when you made the wrong decisions and lost control over a battle you had to deal with the dinosaurs up close and personal in a very graphic and intense way.
That’s how it should be with Brutes as well if you ask me.

I would like to see them return, too. Outside of a massive Brute/Sangheli war, I doubt we would see too many of them on the Sanghelios portions of H5:G. In the event that they do return, I think they should be heavily tweaked.

My proposed brute would be:
Maintain the armor breakoffs, but expand upon them. Chieftains should be mini-boses with heavy, golden armor pieces. Have it so that you can cripple limbs of brutes after breaking off their armor, too. Also, no energy shields. Their lack of energy shields on most-if not all-brutes. This allows needle weapons to maintain a distinct advantage over them compared to plasma and standard ballistic weapons that gives players more to consider when entering combat with them. They should be able to take a full clip from an MA5 point blank and maybe go down. Possibly add in counters specific to them (backstep and melee as seen in H4 prologue) to further diversify their encounters. They are a rag-tag group, so having armor permetuated randomly upon spawning would increase the depth of immersion into their culture. They are pack hunters, too, so some teamwork dynamics (circling a target so that they are flanked from multiple directions) could add that extra challenge that we crave. Post-war, they will have their hands on some of the biggest, most destructive weapons they can find. This would be a good way to add in a new Covenant power weapon… possibly from within the brute sandbox.

There’s a lot more I could put, but I think all of this would be a really good start.

I can’t wait to see how the brutes (specifically Tartarus) will look in H2A, and i’m sure they will look just as impressive in Halo 5. The graphical upgrade in appearance is what i am looking forward to the most. In terms of gameplay, i think they should be more challenging than their Halo 3 counterparts, but a little less so than Halo 2. A sweet spot in between, or maybe 60/40 in Halo 2’s favour of difficulty.

Preach!

And although Brutes are CQC beasts I would LOVE for them to have a nasty Sniper Rifle. With their blades obsession it could look like a sci-fi version of those old skool muskets with a big bayonet on the front.
Make it shoot 30cm long spikes that can impale players to walls and other objects and we have a winner. Like a Brute counterpart to the Binary Rifle as an instant kill sniper.

I’m curious on how brutes armor will look in H2A. Will they use H3 or reach models or will they redo the H2 model
