theres a lot of debate going on about whether the brutes in the new halo infinite cinematic are banished or covie, but imo evidence points towards it taking place during the covenant occupation of earth between 2552 and 2553. in the lore covenant occupation spanned the entire planet, but forces were stretched thin outside of africa. commander agryna is seen as a teenager/adolescent, and intercuts show her years older now and training spartans 4s.
though what conflicts with the covenant theory is that the brutes are wearing more banished-like armor, and the spartans are wearing mjolnir mk 7 gen 3 helmets, which entered production in 2559. however 343 isn’t new to continuity errors when it comes to expensive cinematics.
banished theory fits if infinite’s mp takes place years after the campaign, and the banished invade earth at some point after the events of halo 5
covenant theory fits if we assume continuity errors in the animation
It’s got to be Covenant.
They don’t have the black and red color scheme and they’re using standard Covenant weapons instead of Banished type heavy weapons.
I also, personally, disagree with the idea that the Brutes are wearing Banished armor. If you look at the concept art for the Banished their armor looks like it’s not well taken care of, almost like it’s just thrown together heavy chunks of metal. The Brutes armor in the trailer didn’t look like this.
I thought 2552-2553 to begin with, but here are some thoughts…
Potential “Just Bad Continuity” Stuff - but, I feel like 343 wouldn’t make this mistake now - of course, you might argue that memory is fallible & young I Love Bees has transplanted the armour she knows, onto her memory, but… come on. That’s a huge stretch!
MKVII Armour - Brute Banished Armour - Halo 5 type Dropship & Banshee - Pulse Carbine - Grenade potentially resembles one of the new Infinite grenadesCampaign Voice Clip from Last Video
Subtitles can be seen saying something like “thinking about the people back on Earth? I wouldn’t worry” - personally, I feel that sort of phrasing is more associated with fatalism than optimism in this context, “I wouldn’t worry, they’re all dead, or as good as” - though it could be "I wouldn’t worry, Cortana is taking care of them"How do you make the timing work?
I Love Bees goes from civilian to Spartan between this incident & Halo Infinite MP - if this is a new incident, & not the 2552-2553 incident, then there had to be enough time between it & Halo Infinite, or at least, whenever the multiplayer is set - this doesn’t actually rule anything out, because for all I know, Infinite MP takes place a decade after the Launch CampaignCortana Effect
If this incident is a new one, & if it occurred during Cortana’s take over, a bunch of Banished returning from The Ark, could, I guess, quite easily take up residence anywhere they fancied. But, unless they managed to take some fancy toys with them, I sort of feel like they wouldn’t have sufficient forces to get up to all of the shenanigans they’re looking like being a part of in Infinite. - Conversely, though Cortana has been shown as slow to react, I feel like Earth would be heavily covered by Guardians, so the likelihood of Banished visitation seems infinitesimal, unless this occurs pre-Cortana-goes-off-the-rails, or post whatever goes down in Infinite - Cortana & The Banished - the fiction I’ve read so far, doesn’t lead me to conclude the two are going to get friendly, or even can. I might have missed something though.Honestly, as much as I don’t want to cast any aspersions on 343, sort of feels like the best fit / simplest solution that doesn’t require any real mental contortions, is simply;
The thing takes place in 2552-2553, London also got hit, & all the incongruencies are just artistic license, or bad continuity.
I’d like that not to be the case, & I’ll be interested to see. But the simplest solution isn’t always the wrong one.
I’ve been thinking abou this all day, nothing makes sense.
She looks around 10 years older in 2560, it can earliest be 2552.
They have Pulse Carbines, were they a thing back then? We don’t know but we’ve never heard of them.
Armours don’t look neither Covenant or Banished.
The Type 57 Phantom in this scene was not around until 2557, which contradicts the character’s age-jump.
Could it be the Seekers of the One Freedom or the Servants of the Abiding truth instead? I don’t know, I still can’t get it to fit.
The Spartan’s armours weren’t exactly common back then either, which also indicates it’s rather recent.
My conclusion is: Either it’s supposed to be 2552 but very poorly thought through scene.
Or it’s only a couple of years back and she’s not as much older as she looks, and somehow reached this rank very very fast, in which case I think it would be one of the splinter factions that work for the banished.
But again, none of them really make sense.
It’s an advertisement, not a poem.
This is just like the opening of Halo 4.
Would they spend more money to make the visuals lore accurate when it seems they’re already working around the clock to make this release?
