hello guys this is my first topic here.
so this is something that has been bothering me ever since i played reach, the brutes, why do they look like that ?
now i do understand the whole “some clans shave and others dont”,but how can this http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/halo/images/6/64/Halo-3-Brute-Standoff.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20121007192447 become this http://www.halopedia.org/images/6/6a/Reach_6610802_Full.jpg ?
the skull structure is very different, the first time i saw them i mistook them for a new race until a soldier shouted “BRUTES”. even the brute in the halo wars 2 trailer looks different http://www.thebitbag.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Halo-Wars-2.jpg
atleast the ones in halo 2 have the same skull structure as those in 3 and odst http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/halo/images/0/0f/Brute_menor_H2.png/revision/latest?cb=20110913201200&path-prefix=es
is there any lore reason behind it ?
They don’t look like they have different skull structures to me. Its probably just the shaving. A lion without its mane looks quite different, similar to Brutes with different amounts of hair. On another note, welcome to the forums.
I think its not to be taken that seriously as the elites looked equally as bad under armor and it was probably just the graphics at the time with the excuse of a different type.
Looks like the Brutes in the two images simply have different facial hair and skin tones, much like humans differ from one individual to another.
Now, one thing about Brute appearances that does bug me is how in some of the novels (such as “First Strike”), Brutes are described as essentially being hairless, when I know that they do have body hair like a gorilla (example: Tartarus and the rest of the Brutes in Halo 2. In H3, it’s obvious that not all have facial hair and their body hair is probably just hidden under the armor, or trimmed to fit under).
their body structure is somewhat consistent, http://www.electricblueskies.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/Halo-3-Covenant-2-03-Brute-Minor.jpg
again, is there any lore reason behind it. personally, i think that each clan/pack has its own facial appearance same as humans differ with each ethnicity.
note that the ones in halo 2 and 3 have longer snouts then those on reach

I heard some of it is down to personal preference/clan structure. Some Cheiftans allow their pack members to look as they will, be it incredibly ferocious or stylized. Some of them enforce ridged appearance guidelines. Some find a middle ground. It all depends on the Chieftain.
Only real diff I see between the two is how heavy set their eyebrows are, which even happens amongst humans.
I think it’s good they change up the appearances, who wants to play a game fighting the exact same enemy over and over again?? That’s just laziness.
Simple change of design and artists
Idc what the brutes look like, they should bring them back into the Halo Game. I wanna shoot some more!
Um Halo Wars 2 that brute attacking red team might be Macabeus the uncle of Tartarus or might be a new brute in a new faction thats the main man
Every species has variation - I mean, look at how radically different humans can look. Look at dogs! Cats! A lion is technically still a cat.
It stands to reason that the same principle applies to Brutes.
and in which case we would be descendants of the brutes lol
Artistic style, or just some Brutes would look a bit different from others, like we do from other humans
