Well I have a theory behind who uses the Gravity Hammer in the Halo 4, it might comes down to the matter that the Brutes could be like skirmishers, there not jackals but are both Kig-yar. whereas the brutes might also have a subspecies that making them both Jiralhanae but technically not brutes… you see what i’m trying to say?
Anyway Its not that I really want Brutes in the game but I cant see the elites wielding them.
My theory is that the storm faction has brute weapons, everyone is desperate to get their hands on ships and weapons. Just read glasslands, it reveals a whole network of trade between species. lol
Furthermore, the whole notion of “subspecies” needs to end. Now. When Bungie did it, they gave the Skirmishers a distinct gameplay style and look, not change all the Jackals and write it off as “subspecies”. If you were to explore the Storm Covenant and it’s inner workings and culture, it wouldn’t be so bad, especially if each subspecies had a distinct playstyle.
NOT basically make a recolor of an established species and make them all that then say “It’s a subspecies.”

There doesn’t need to be brutes in the game or a simular creature for the gravity hammer to be in the game. Elites could have made their own gravity hammers or even the new enemy.
Either the storm are scavenging for tech and use whatever they can find, or maybe some grav hams technology were being studied by some UNSC, and chief managed to get his hands on one.
I am curious as to what secret story there is about the absence of the brutes though.

Making new ones sounds like a waste of time, Why would the new enemy call it the gravity hammer though?

All of the Elites (from a population of presumably billions) hate the Brutes, without exception? Seems a bit of a sloppy generalisation, to be honest.

After seeing the Brutes slaughter your people on High Charity, Delta Halo, Earth, throughout the Covenant fleets AND THEN eating the corpses of slain Elites, there is nothing to sympathize with. Then you have to remember the Brutes sided with the Prophets and became the Covenant Loyalists. Then you have to remember that the Elites and the brutes had an intense distrust for each other since the Brutes joined the Covenant.
I mean, am I the only one who played Halo 2 and Halo 3’s campaign?

Well, I’m sure if another species betrayed us and then began slaughtering Humans, we would all hate them, wouldn’t we?
There are a few Brutes who stuck with the Elites. Like 20?

And some of them are stealing the Elite’s ships and taking them to the Loyalists.

Which also wouldn’t work with Brutes.
Each Brute tribe has their own tints of hair color, not to mention different styles of hair grooming so to speak. From tan to black, from cleanly shaven to fully haired, big beards and all.
That’s the “canon” explanation of Brutes always looking different in each game: we just encountered different tribes each time.
And yes, I agree with your other points. No need for more subspecies. Lets just keep H4 simple in terms of ex Covie species.
Besides, with the state the Elites are in (and this Storm faction most likely being a small splinter faction) it’s more than likely they will use whatever weapon they can salvage. Even if it comes from their most hated enemy.

Well said.
Grunts and Jackals seem unchanged despite their fearsome appearances.
