I noticed an achievement in Spartan Assault to be using the Brute Shot. This means 343 hasnt forgotten the weapon and it’s inclusion in only 2 halo games. However it seems they may be bringing it back. If so, Im hoping for other returning weapons in the series as well, but this would be the biggest impacted weapon.
If you remember, this grenade-tossing weapon of 4 shots in a clip was not only dead at mid-range, but a jump-melee in h2 made it an insta-kill, making it a close-ranged powerhouse. If it’s in SA, Im really hoping it’s making a return in Halo 5 as well.
It’s functionality was given to two other weapons: The Scattershot and the Concussion Rifle. Bringing it back would just redundancy in the Power Weapons.
‘But!’ I hear you saying ‘We already have redudancy in the weapons! Three automatics, four precision weapons, three sidearms. What’s one more going to hurt?’ Those weapons exist because logic demands it. You can’t have the Prometheans using Carbines and Storm Rifles. Even then, the weapons try to differentiate themselves from each other. Suppressor is more akin to the SMG of old than an actual automatic assault rifle.
Well, the events in Spartan Assault take place between Halo 3 and Halo 4, or so I’ve heard. So the Brute Shot being in SA doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll be in Halo 5. The Brute Shot’s existence in Halo 5 is based entirely upon the Campaign. If the Brutes show up in Halo 5’s Campaign, then the Brute Shot is certain to return. Considering the Brutes weren’t mention even once, there’s no telling if they’ll be in Halo 5. Here’s my take on it. I recall Sandtrap’s description. “Although the Brute occupiers have been driven from this ancient structure, they left plenty to remember them by.” Also, the Brutes vehicles seem to be best-suited for rugged environments, such as open desert. And seeing as though Halo 5 obviously takes place in some sort of sandy environment, I wouldn’t at all be surprised if they did happen to show up. By the way, does anyone have any idea where or what this place is? (Halo 5 Reveal Trailer)

Why settle for good enough? I say, if 343 has the opportunity, they should most definitely have more weapons. I would love to have the SMG as a primary weapon, or the Sentinal Beam as a secondary weapon. It only gives players more choices.

Why am I settling for good enough?
Too many choices becomes a balance nightmare and might leave the player overwhelmed, leading them to stick to what they know. Or worse yet, the choices are effectively meaningless since there is only one, or a few, effective choices.

Unless it’s completely ridiculous, power weapons don’t really need to be very balanced. The only weapons that require fine-tuned balance are loadout weapons.

This. Everyone remembers how deadly the BS was. If it’s reintroduced, Id hope for a 2-direct hit/3-hit splash damage kill and 1 melee is instant death. Nothing to balance there, mainly starting weapons are all that need fine-tuned the most.
The way I see it, the more weapons the merrier. As long as they aren’t reskinned versions of other weapons present in the game, looking at the promethan weapons.
Take this idea for example. An Energy Leech rifle that drains your opponents shields and recharges your own, and of course other distinct weapons that differ from each other.
Brute Shot? Well it was fun bouncing them around corners, and it’s always nice sending players flying. It also had a nice melee, so why not?

Scatter shot and concussion rifle are in no way similar to the brute shot. Be wrong somewhere else please
