Brute Craig the new mascot

Hello, I just read an article about Craig becoming the new Xbox mascot. Referring to this Phil Spencer mentioned he loves the community taking something hilarious and having fun with it.
Weeeeeeeell, the way this makes me feel is that Microsoft / 343 ain’t really taking this serious. Craig is an issue everyone is making fun of. Now to my understanding MS / 343 think “Oh the community thinks this is funny, let’s make this our new Xbox mascot”. Could it be that there is some misunderstanding? Craig isn’t something to be proud of but rather sometihng to be ashamed of. Why would you want to highlight such a thing?
Is this stupidity or a marketing strategy or is it just me?

I think its been taken out of context here. Craig was created due to the circumstance. It was funny seeing a brute that up close in that way. People loved it. 343 know that the graphics need to be worked on if that’s what you’re referring to also. People aren’t hating on Craig, its a funny “meme”

It’s just you, I guess.
Craig’s nothing to be ashamed of.
I think it’s hilarious that Halo is still so popular that even a badly designed monkey can turn viral,
even turning into a literal mascot.

Well i personally love craig but…
The way this started is because of the terrible textures and graphics of the game.

I think its a good way to save face for the Xbox brand. Embrace and own your mistakes instead of ignoring them. I saw the Craig thing by Phil as just that, rather than seeing it as a way to direct people’s attention elsewhere. I think they understand this meme is not just a mockery of their demo but its a part of the halo community now. They are leaning on the positive side of the meme, which is a good move.

Oh please, really? The game looks fine. I can’t believe how uptight Halo fans can be.
“The gameplay demo didn’t look pretty enough, so Microsoft and 343 aren’t allowed to acknowledge/embrace a fun meme we made out of it! Instead, they need to go sit in a corner and sulk!”

I know people have turned this into a joke but it’s getting old fast, 343i should really start taking the joke seriously because they need to gain the community’s trust back because at the moment it feels more like people mocking 343i instead of just joking about a character. It’s not a mascot, it’s just a sign of depressing times and fans are concerned that 343i aren’t taking the situation seriously.

Think it has more to do with Craig’s stoic, emotionless face as he’s being smacked and killed, when it should be an expression of fear or anger or pain instead. But this is something you only notice if you watch the demo at 25% speed and pause it at the exact right moment, not something that would ever be a real problem during normal gameplay

Honestly when they final product comes out and the graphics and textures are polished up I hope they keep him looking like that, just him

‘Looks fine’ from all games that were announced infinite was the worst graphic’s wise. Reach and h3 on mcc are better looking games then that. And its not that i care that much about graphic’s. I still play games from the og xbox and xbox 360 to this day. But for a next gen title this was terrible.

Edit: especially for a game that runs on ’ the strongest console ever’

next gen games that run on the strongest console ever dont neccesarily have to look that great.
There are many ways to utilize next gen perks and power other than just making the game run smoother and look better…
For example, the scale of the game… how big and alive its universe is…
Or the loading times… how fast you can get in and out of a game
or the number of instances the game can run at a certain time
Or particle and fluid simulations
Or raytraced dynamic lighting

There is so much more than the quality of the textures and resolution on your screen.
I rather have a large expansive world at 1080p i can explore rather than 4k realistic graphics running at 120 fps.
Compromises are made in game design.
Can it look better than it does while still doing what it does now? potentially yes… but im not gonna expect a drastic change.

I wish there were an profile photo of craig to Halo Waypoint when Infinite launches.

Given the pop in ranges that we see, the game is as ‘big and expansive’ as just about every other open world game, most of which look better than Infinite does.

Open world games are not new things, and there’s some beautiful open world games out there. This is largely achieved through LODs, just like infinite is using.

I am aware of the controversy about the game’s visuals. In the context of the topic of this thread, what I meant by “looks fine” is that I don’t think it looks so horrendously bad that Microsoft/343 should avoid acknowledging Craig.

They’ve already acknowledged and responded to the negative feedback about the game’s graphics and said they’re working on it, so demanding that they stop embracing a fun meme people have made out of the gameplay demo, and instead, I don’t know, hang their heads in shame to show that they are serious about the problem of the game not looking pretty enough? Just strikes me as needlessly uptight.

I agree

I would seriously change my picture to Craig in an instant, love that idea!

Craig is a funny meme. They can keep Craig. But I also feel like they should really put more work into the Brutes.

Well that makes alot of sense. Ill guess its more fair to wait till launch and judge the game at that point.
