Hiya im just wondering if anyone knows why it is so hard to pull off assassinations on the brutes? Im not even sure how to trigger it but I think you need to be stealthy and for the brute to focus on someone else… I am wondering because its always satisfying to get the drop on an enemy and assassinate them and you can assassinate the Elites with ease, the only ones unable to be assassinated are the secret ones. If the Elites who are the highest ranking and most skillful enemies can be assassinated then why are the brutes such a pain?
I agree, they are really difficult to assassinate. It’s like their assassination hitbox is way smaller than every other enemy.
Because that was a flaw in Halo 3 with chieftains regarding the attack with a small jump and a swing with the hammer, you can just avoid the attack by moving on the side and follow with a melee from behind but it’s not fixing anything as the same move can be used to evade the same attack in Reach, just you probably need to do that multiple times until the Brute is dead.
But there is dual wielding Elites and they benefit from the same thing while normal Elites don’t.
Both are immune to instant-kill melees from behind if they are aware of that player, Brutes are assassinated by a stab in the back, the same or almost the same as on other Spartans.
i dont know if it has anything to do with stealth, but i assassinate them easily when they re not aware of me
Yes, Brutes have to be caught unawares to get the assassination. I think it’s cool.

Ahh I totally forgot about that, you could even spinal tap Brute Chieftains that popped invincibility right? That makes a lot more sense considering how scripted their attacks were and that Elites could evade and were generally trickier to assassinate in Halo 3

The plus side of it being less common is its super satisfying when pulled off.

Uuhh…you do know that that assassinations weren’t implemented into Halo until Halo Reach, right? Yea, I think there was an “Assassin” medal for meleeing an enemy from behind, but there weren’t actual assassinations until Reach. Since they didn’t have assassinations in Halo 3, they would be really tricky to assassinate (in Halo 3).

Yes and players under traits that make them invincible can be killed like that too.
When I see a chieftain I see a free invincibility if it’s not a flare.

That’s how it’s called in past Halos.

It may have been, but this thread was asking about the difficulty of performing an assassination on a Brute in Halo Reach.
Someone replies with a post about assassinating Brutes/Elites in Halo 3.
Seeing as the OP was specifically asking about Halo Reach, I automatically don’t care about the “terminology” used in Halo 3, I was simply stating that you couldn’t perform an actual assassination, as in a fully animated insta-kill, in Halo 3 since they weren’t implemented until Halo Reach. When talking about Halo, if you use the term “assassinate” almost everyone is going to assume the Halo Reach/ Halo 4/ Halo 5 form of assassinations since they don’t see “assassinating an enemy” as a simple single hit to the back of an enemy. They are thinking you are talking about the flashy knife stabbing, neck snapping assassination.

I’m talking about the animation in Reach, the “both” is about dual wielding (A.I. ) Elites and Brutes.
