I am not sure if anyone remembers from halo 2, but at the same time people invented Zombies, Tower of Power was in it’s hayday. This game was simple, and a lot of fun. The turret was on assension, and everyone had shotguns only and no shields. It turned into a battle to control the tower while someone sat on the turret and cleared the field. The opposing team would do it’s best to mass on the bridge(the only place protected from the turrets field of death), and then make a concentrated push to take the tower. It was usually 2 teams with 6 or more players, the full 16 was ideal.
This game type is more or less dead. Not because we can’t build it, we can. Or that we can’t get people to play it, I have. It’s because the turret is so lame now. The simple fact that it can be removed is what ruins it. It does 2 things. It destroys the tower, the second someone is about to loose the tower they just rip the turret off and presto, and of game. Second, the turret is much weaker, because it can be a mobile weapon, bungie had to tone it down. The latter is the problem, it is possible to get a game going and explain that you just can’t rip down the turret, and 4 of of 5 times that will happen. But the turret is still useless.
When was the last time you saw any use a turret? They don’t. For a mounted gun, it seems about on par with the AR. It’s spray is about 15 feet wide at only a short distance, and seems worse for some reason while still mounted. In halo’s 1 and 2 the turret was a hot spot, it was worth using. Since 3 it has seen little to no use. IT IS A MOUNTED TURRET, it should be slightly op, this mounted turret is more of a piece of the scenery.
