I was very skeptical of our new pilot friend at first; but as the trailer went on, I was pleasantly surprised by the story telling in that brief video. I’m excited for how we’ll see his character appear in game.
I hope we don’t have to see Osiris or Palmer anymore, and I hope this guy takes a big spot!
How do you hope to see him in game?
Where do you see his story arc going?
I hope he takes on a Sergeant Johnson style role. Kinda like the human friend who’s always there to support you and help you out. His demeanor in the trailer suggests that he won’t be the bombastic cigar chomping bad-YOINK we all know and love, but he could start out as a shell-shocked pilot and develop over the course of the story into an enthusiastic ally. Perhaps he finds some motivation in returning to his family, or if they are already dead, then he finds motivation in avenging their deaths.
As far as his story arc, I saw a meme today that discussed how all of the people who Chief first sees in each of his games opening cut scenes eventually dies in those games. The two techs who wake him up in CE, the armorer in H2, Johnson in H3, and Cortana in H4. I hope that doesn’t happen to this guy, but it was a funny meme nonetheless.
I mean, something tells me Chief’s going to be doing a LOT of traveling in this game. Someone’s gotta haul his 1000-pound armored butt from one place to another.
Brohammer, indeed.
Definitely a Johnson type character, not in attitude but in role. He’s there supporting you. He can do and say things and reflect emotions that don’t fit the demeanor of a super soldier (or are difficult to portray for a fully armored character). I’d like to see him as this overall positive character who can bring some light and hope to a situation that might otherwise seem quite grim.

Agreed with this.
However, given the emotional moment with the holo-recording, I hope he’s not overblown in terms of comedy at dark moments.
And it may be bias, but I really hope he survives to be united with his family which should also be established to be alive.
It’s getting kind of played out that characters we have some emotional connection to die for whatever reason, self sacrifice, sudden death or prolonged suffering.
Aye, he is probably going to be our new Foehammer/Hocus replacement, but with a face, backstory and pulse. I would love to have it so he is one of the few friendlies we meet in the Infinite. Just the Chief, Brohammer, some marines and the occasional cameo by another series mainstay. Would also hope he survives Infinite and can become our recurring ride and supporting character.

It’s a given that he shouldn’t be a clown. I don’t think he even needs to be humorous like Johnson was. But I would prefer for his default character to be hopeful rather than mournful. In any case, as we saw in the trailer, he has possibilities for emotional moments going all different ways: fear, saddness, enthusiasm, hope. So there’s plenty of emotional range to reflect off this character.
Having a character with a happy ending would definitely be a welcome change. Every character the player can form some emotional connection with has either died or is tied up in an eternal war effort. Maybe in a galaxy constantly at war it’s too much asked, but it’d be nice to see someone just return to a normal life. And I guess a man with a family is a perfect candidate.
Nobody and Nothing will replace FOEHAMMER HOW DARE YOU INSINUATE THAT SHE COULD BE REPLACED SHE DIED TRYING TO SAVE US!!!
; )
In all seriousness it does look like he will be the replacement considering we all know that this game will most likely have us jumping around the Ring and Ark so were going to need a pelican pilot, also can I ask what happened to blue team one minute their with chief and then the trailer hits and their magically missing.

Yes, he felt quite real, and relatable to. Liked it.
Indeed, I’d probably cry from happiness were he to be united in a truly happy ending fashion.
Also, I don’t know if it’s just me, but it feels as this “characters died/is gone for whatever reason” has been in most large games for quite a while, not just Halo.
I don’t really recall the last time I had an NPC get a good ending.

Yeah, he showed that when Chief said “No, it’s time to fight” and he ran to the cockpit and closed the door. I understand he didn’t have a helmet and would have been sucked into space but, I’m sure he could find a helmet somewhere. Just messing with you.

Agreed. I know more about him from a 5 minute trailer than all of Osiris in a full game.

I agree, i think Halo has relied on “cameos” a bit too much recently. Not everyone needs to be in every game. Most times it’s just Chief on his own.

The first role I think he will clearly play in the game is as exposition to the player. As he explains what happened to Chief, he’s telling us what happened. Then I see him precisely as someone who can add the depth of emotion to a game that Chief, because of who Chief is, cannot.

Hopefully it’s a sign of things to come with the writing quality and direction.
The pilot seems like hes pretty cool, but the best part about him so far is his backstory. The backstory for this guy is setting the tone, for an emotionally dark campaign. He is likely to die.
