I dont know about anybody else but the Halo: Reach style of multiplayer progression was above all my favorite. It gave you something to work for and want to keep playing. I loved the credit system and spartan customization as well as the ranks it gave you in multiplayer instead of just simple numbers like Halo 4 or Halo MCC. So I hope to see this in Halo 5.
I’d love to see the ranking system that we had in the beta alongside the Reach progression system. Spartan Ranks have never appealed to me (especially when there’s just 130!???) and to get Inheritor in Reach takes forever. It’s a great progression system, especially loved when the ranks turned from military into Legend type stuff.

Agreed. Reach was my favorite ranking system. I peaked in halo3 so early thati never ranked up again after like 2 months lol. Quite frustrating for me.
The strength of the h2/h3 ranking system versus the hr/h4 system is that it promotes better gameplay and longevity of time played overall in the game.
H2/h3 ranking system is based on wins/losses. Simply put, if your team wins you rank up; if your team losses you rank down. This promotes better teamwork during gameplay. Having great stats doesn’t mean anything if you lose because you didn’t play as a team. When the team becomes more importabt than the individual, better gameplay is had by all.
Hr/h4 progression system doesn’t promote the team gameplay. It’s whatever, win/lose/die alot, it’s all ok because at the end of the game everyone’s a winner. After a player hits the max level, there’s not much left to accomplish.
I think there’s a place for a progression systen for custom armor choices and weapon skins, but I believe win/loss ranking is absolutely necessary.
There pretty much having both anyway.

Except for when you realise that it doesn’t reflect your actual skill or that you reach the final rank and as a result you stop caring.
Not that we’re going to have it in Halo 5 (as there are now ranks based upon skill).
Only noobs liked the “credit” based rank because then they don’t actually have to earn it. They simply rank up even if they suck. I remember a Reach game of team snipers and one member of my team was just riding around on the mongoose or running around and had zero kills and 19 deaths and still got nearly 1000 credits! WTF! I say… you suck and don’t have to play but rank up anyways? That’s lame. I want pure skill based rank and match making. Where if you do good you rank up and if you suck you lose rank. Let’s bring back those good competitive games instead of what we get now which is mainly very one sided games.
Reach and Halo 4’s ranking were garbage.
When ranking is “credit” based it yields no incentive to:
-win
-support the team
-play the -Yoinking!- objective
-Improve skill
I would like something like Halo 3’s ranking system, with a tweak to account for players on the losing team that actually performed well, but were brought down by their team.
For example:
3 xp for winning,
1 xp for being MVP on the losing team, or top 3 in BTB
0 xp for other losers
-3 xp for those who quit
Bring back the reach ranking system for the total game time/ offline/ etc. and to replace the SR so that we can unlock armor like we did in reach (have some tied to the CSR maybe)
Keep the CSR for matchmaking just improve it (maybe more ranks or more levels per rank)

Reach’s system isn’t a “ranking” system. It’s just a character level. Obviously there’s going to be a ranking system. The OP is just talking about replacing the SR system with the Reach military rank system.

I agree with this. Hated Reach progression. Turned into timesinks without challenges. Halo 3 had XP and skill ranks and had a much system with ranked and social cough cough full inheritor team against sub)generals cough
Reach was just a “keep on playing to get bigger numbers” ranking system. Hell, you could barely even call it a “ranking system”, because it did -Yoink- all other than let someone know how much time they played the game for. The one thing that I did like from Reach was the ability to buy armour, but the ranking system was pretty pointless.

Meh, it’s better than the endless grind of Halo Reach and Halo 4.
since they are not going to budge on the whole rank system they have why not combine they’re s and halo 3s military ranks and exp system so in ranked your skill will go up or down and if you play social ranked and quit you lose and exp point and have double exp weekends and keep the community happy with weekend playlists and weekly playlists.
the reach ranking system was one of the core failures of the game. it damaged not only mm as ppl above hve pointed out but ruined firefight as well. ordinary reach firefight should have been great but no one ever played it because you would earn more credits playing ‘ff fiesta’ or w/e it was which was maybe fun on occasion but got boring fast, but ppl kept playing for credits and the normal ff playlist was eventually taken down since no one wanted to play. firefight versus? that was awesome. playlist lasted one week.
fortunately H5 ranking seems more like H3’s. of course 343 will have a credit based rank alongside it that’ll probably have adverse effects on the game because thats what cod’s doing and thats what will sell short term, but long term its not gona help.
