This is a feature that I would love to see in Halo 4. This Clan system, which was only seen in Halo 2, included (a limited amount of) ranks, which you could assign to your clan members. Although, there wasn’t really much else that you could do with it.
Here’s a few things that could be included as an addition to Clans:

More ranks for clan members
-
“Waypoint” Clan integration
-
Set up/request/issue Clan Battles with other clans
-
Issue challenges to fellow clan members. (e.g. Get x amount of kills)
I can’t really think of any other things to add. If you have some ideas you would like to add, feel free to post them!

I agree, if Halo 2 is to be remade the same thing needs to happen.

2 things tho.
1.) let our clan tags be up to 5 letters long, surrounded by [examp]
2.) make the clans INVITE ONLY. meaning if you make a clan, people cant just change their clan tag, you have to INVITE them to the clan.
i dont think xbox is too keen on giving people extra spots on their friends lists, so maybe it would be better to keep the ‘extra friends list’ section OUT of the clan (meaning you cant see whos online in the clan, but if they are on your friends list it will show up as them being in the clan).
