Bringing back the Custom Games

Alright guys, I don’t know what it was, but for some reason in Reach NOBODY just has a bunch of friends go and play custom games, something about customs died after Halo 3. Anybody else think there needs to be something in Halo 4 to draw people back to hosting Custom Games lobbies and just chilling, shooting their friends in the teeth, and showing off that sweet new map you just made to your fellow Halo-gamers?

P.S. If you are interested in doing Halo: Reach customs, or even Halo 3, add me. None of my XBL friends play Halo: Reachjavascript:__doPostBack(‘ctl00$MainContent$forum$ctl03$PostReply’,’’)

Sorry about that script at the end

Well in halo 3’s forge mode you could make things that weren’t so dull like in forge world, if halo 4 really does redeem the series then I think people will want to make more maps, forcing them to play custom games, if lots of people play halo 4 as much as the others in the series then people will want to make maps to show off. Let’s say there’s two games, one popular, the other isn’t popular at all. Would you rather get to the highest level in the popular game or the game nobody cares about? Basically it depends on if forge is colorful and if the game does well in the long run, maybe e3 will show us forge mode

I dont mean to just post this to be contrary, but me and my friends play Customs every time we get on after a few matches of Mtahmaking. Just throwing that out there.

I have an explanation as to why a lot of people left Reach early and as to why nobody played near as much custom games. These two reasons are very much linked and I’m 99% sure they’re correct.

The main reason is because of the forge mode and maps in Halo Reach. There is only ONE map to forge on in the whole game. One environment. One forge pallet. Now, you’d expect there to be an option to change it to, for example, snow or sand instead of grass but no, you cannot. It is one boring map with grey dull objects that is full of green grass, grey rock and blue water. Boring, huh?

However, in Halo 3, you had indoor and outdoor maps with different forge pallets and colourful (well not grey) objects and different environments. People could make much more interesting maps and make it more exciting with all of this. People preferred this and I think this is why not many people played much custom games (it gets boring so fast with these grey objects also) and as to why people did not play the game at all.

Many people I know play Halo matchmaking and campaign and like it but one thing that stands out for them is custom games and forge. The ‘funhub’ of Halo where you just have a laugh and a good time with your own maps and gametypes. A lot of people’s favourite game mode was custom games and Reach did not provide satisfactory maps or forge objects to cater these people.

This answers your question but I will also add in a solution. 343i MUST look at the bonuses of both Halo 3’s and Halo Reach’s forge modes to make it successful in Halo 4, while adding many new features also. They need more colourful and bright maps, more colourful and bright non-grey objects and they need the forge tools that we got in Halo Reach. People do not believe it but forge and custom games are probably two of the most important things in Halo. They need forge to be successful in order for Halo 4 to be a success. Just look at Reach and it’s flaws, one of it’s biggest being the forge world and it’s ‘greyness’. That’s my opinion on the matter anyway.

Customs are still being played, its just that they are played less than before because there isn’t a reward to doing so since you earn minimal CR (to prevent boosting).

Honestly, i want to that feeling to return for Halo 4; to be able LAN a Halo game and be excited about it. I can do this with CE, 2, and 3 no problem (even most of my friends LAN 3 to do this day). I hardly get the feeling to LAN Reach and the game just gives off these feeling of isolation and “meh”. It’s just not as fun to watch or play IMO.

I noticed the same thing.
Back in Halo 3 me and my friends use to always play customs but we never played them in Reach and the reason behind it is just that none of my friends play Reach because it just doesn’t feel like a Halo game.

It’s a consequence of a progression system in my opinion. People aren’t willing to spend the week in Forge and Customs making a playable map for the weekend. I imagine for a lot of people it is a direct competition between Rank and playing something different.

To encourage people to play Customs, maybe reward people for downloads and recommendations of their work? If there are more good maps hanging around hopefully there will be more opportunity for customs.

Anyone remember playing Jenga in Halo 3? those were the days.

I just loved playing my crappy maps with a few friends and thinking, “Holy crap, this building you made has TWO levels?!” or playing custom gametypes, it was all just really fun. I feel like it would be fun in reach too, it just doesn’t happen NEARLY as often as it did in 3 or even 2

Reach is CUSTOMS. Its the only thing keeping the game alive for me, its almost all i play in reach because of how horrible matchmaking is. Just look at me service record. The trick is adding people who are active in the custom and forging community. Believe it or not there are lots and lots of forgers out there that are very talented and male much better quality maps than there is in MM. Add me (saitykoalabear) ill show u a world u never knew existed haha

Try me, add (saitykoalabear) yes saity with a i and koala with a lowercase L

Once i get your request you can show me yours and ill show you mine

Yes, I know that Reach has great forgers (me being one) I do in fact know of this world. I’m simply stating that in Halo 3 you could sign into XBL and look at your friends list and there would be many custom games going on, when I sign in today maybe 2 friends are playing Reach or even Halo

i wish they could add that you can join and search for Custom Games like when your bored and no friends online i can join a fun one

I play a lot of custom games when I have gold with online friends. But I’m sure 343i can spice it up with having the option to have gutas or sentinels on some of the maps.

Realy it can work their script can be: attack player when near them and/or when fired upon by players also govthe fastest route to player if touching a wall/solid (not including floor) find another way. And they can’t see through walls therefore you can forge some of the maps to a certain degree but if you plan to include the ai gutas you have to build around so it’s easy for them to move if you want them to.

NOTE: the script I said was a very basic one of course not in script form. But just an idea.

I’d guess this would take a month to do for a map but idk

what do you think ?

Who said there was no custom games?!

I have to do a TON of organizing just to get a 4v4 going in Custom Games. People feed off of credits. If there was a bigger payout, lots more people would play, but then that would be make MM redundant for ranking up.

> Who said there was no custom games?!

No one I dint think. I think op was saying why not to many ppl play custom games in reach compared to H3

I used to play Custom Games, til my account took a silver membership to the head.

Seriously, Omega Journey was coolio, and let us not forget… Monster Jam, OOOH YEEAAHH!!!
