If 343 isn’t going to bring the beam rifle back, then why not just reduce the fire rate on the stalker rifle and make it overload in two rapid shots. Reduce the ammo count. Make the sound more like a dinosaur bird chirping. Color it purple, and make the bullets purple too. In other words. Bring back the beam rifle.

What makes you think the Beam Rifle won’t return at some point, especially considering Guardians had multiple variants between two models of the same Beam Rifle?
Also, the Stalker Rifle is perfect as is.

Maybe the damage depends on its zoom depth.
1x zoom it shoots like a carbine
2x zoom takes more ammo but shoots like beam riffle
343 Industries has stated already that all the weapons will be making their return at some point. Future content updates will bring back the guns to the game. Stalker Rifle is more like a Banished DMR while the Covenant Carbine was a Covenant DMR.
Mid-Tier ranged weapons.

Honestly I’d have preferred the Stalker Rifle be like a new age version of the Needle Rifle. Only gameplay differences would be it consumes ammo instead of heating up, and it supercombines on 5 body shots instead of just killing.
It would have made for a sweet and unexpected weapon comeback instead of them just making a weird Banished weapon with possibly the most boring design in the game.
It’s supposed to be Plasma but utterly fails to feel like Plasma in any way.
