Bring Flood back and make them scary

Don’t get me wrong, i think the Flood are a great enemy. I just think they’re not frightening enough, though they do have potential. Like for example: On the mission Floodgate in halo 3, the atmosphere and the music(dread intrusion from the soundtrack), were quite eery things to build up to a frightening thing, but when the flood came it was just Meh, Nothing too scary. In Halo 5 i think the design team at 343i should make the Flood look like Flood but make it creepy, sort of like the Necromorphs from the Dead Space series. Hopefully with the next-gen graphics they will be able to accomplish this.

Make them scarier but not to the point of dead space.

More like tyranids from 40K scary (ok maybe more)

I’m down for scarier flood.

Yes please. The games should also go into the Precursors (through the Flood) and all of that stuff. There are still some questions to be answered, and the non-book-readers also deserve to experience it.

I want them to be disturbing.

They need to be dragging bodies around, infecting people violently, twitching, relentless, make scary noises, and jus be, you know, a formidable zombie parasite that tears through everything.

This thing brought the Forerunners to their knees.

If we face those Flood we lose instantly

I would love to have them back, and yes, make them horrifying, I remember the buildup to them in ‘343 Guilty Spark’, I was really concerned as to why the covies were running and what in the hell that marine saw, then I was concerned as to what that noise was right near the door where that marine feel onto you, and what happened to that elite with something “scrambling the insides”. Basically what I’m saying is I want you to be scarred before you discover them, I know it won’t be the same since now we know who the flood are now, but I’m sure they can give them a decent buildup. The only problem is how will the flood fall into 343’s storyline, I feel like there setting up in a way where there will be no flood.

Well said Spartan

During CE I killed a lot of Flood just to see them go back up in front of me. I have to say, that was scary to a point. And in Halo 2… Well I was a little kid when I played this, but… The atmosphere during Sacred Icon was definitely scary to a point.

In Halo 4… The infected Spartans remind me of Caboose’s phrase “You look scary even if you are smiling”. But without the “scary part”.

Achieving a balance between Halo CE/2 Flood and Mona Lisa Flood would be perfect IMO.

oh goodness, you reminded me of the dark foggy atmosphere of that place. I also think they should add that sort of screaming sound from Scared Icon and Quarantine Zone into Halo 5, or whatever the hell that next Halo is called.

Indeed.

Change up their gameplay a bit in the process. Looking “scary” is only part of it.
Don’t go completely like it, but take Dead Space’s Necromorphs as an example. They are… kind of chaotic. Unpredictable in some ways. One will charge and berserk while the others slowly approach you or leap into air vents to flank you.

The many varieties of Flood can help that, but just make them a little unpredictable. Make you feel intense, alert, fighting them. One tactic won’t work against the next, change up your strategies as the Flood change up theirs.

We want the Flood that was designed to make life suffer.

The Anniversary Proto-Gravemind was nice, as you could make out several bodies jutting out.

I’m concerned about the art style of the flood since they released the pictures of infected spartans for Halo 4. Without explanation it breaks a bit of lore with no antennas coming out of it, which is what the flood use for sight. The infected spartans also didn’t have the flood’s definitive grotesque growths. The models looked really clean and not disgusting, as flood combat forms should look IMO.

I’m hoping the Spartan flood’s appearance was mixture of exclusively being the spartan’s infected form and limitations in a multiplayer model.

343, if you would be so kind in the next installments: Keep it real, keep 'em gross.

They need to make not just the flood sound scarier but make the surroundings sound scarier as well, to get that feeling of being watched and hunted. (skip to 26 sec)

No, don’t make them look more disgusting (that’s going about it the wrong way). Make them behave scary and put them into a suitable environment.

It worked in Halo 1 and Halo 2.

The Halo 3 Flood were too passive and slow moving and were only a threat because of high damage (like every other enemy in that game).

If we face the more advanced Flood then they would look disgusting, but CE and 2 had it perfect (still hate how the level Cortana was bright :/)

I feel too much graphical improvement could end up ruining them (like it did with Grunts in Halo 3).

Granted that was art style, but still…

Yeah… Art style can either do justice or mess something up completely

Oh yea, definately.

Perhaps there could be a scene where some of your allies shoot themselves rather than face the Flood. I think that would show how truly horrifying the Flood is.
