Spartan Ops in Halo 4 was not a very good replacement for Firefight and ultimately lead to even more repetitive and boring gameplay. There was nothing new replaying old missions and many missions were almost exactly the same (push a button, capture a point, leave). The missions could not be produced fast enough for each one to be special or unique.
More importantly, let us create custom maps on Firefight, let us choose our AI opponents, let us choose what weapons and vehicles we can have, let us choose how we want to play. I think that in itself is one of the biggest downfalls of Spartan ops, lack of customization and lack of choice combined with repetitive gameplay.
Firefight is superior to spartan Ops because of the choices players have and the survival aspect, not missions.
Why not both? The playspace in Halo 4 for Spartan Ops could easily be converted for Firefight.
The Xbone’s discs should have enough room for both. Though I hate SPoPs
Personally, I rather see both b/c once you finish a mission, you may have to wait a week for the next one. It’ll also give you an excuse to play Firefight. My only hope for both is two separate sets of commendations like in Reach.

The problem I think is Spartan Ops was too ambitious and tried to give Halo players something more that it just couldn’t do.
The missions followed almost all the same objectives and never changed.
You have no “control” in how you want to play, you can’t choose what enemies spawn, what weapons you want (spawn with rockets, snipers, etc), and you had forced objectives.
I would like 343i to push AI in Halo so we can build forge maps that can be made in Firefight maps for an infinite amount of fun.
The issue with Spartan Ops was variety.
Every mission was: here’s a dozen waves of enemies, here’s a bunch of weapons and occasionally vehicles, move around and press x a couple times; GO.
Make missions different; give us some with open fighting, others with stealth, and others where we’re doing something different. Maybe we’re flying Broadswords, or doing some kind of crazy stuff.
I prefer Spartan Ops, but I think H5 should have both FF and SpOp.
I think S ops has so much more potential.
There could be all sorts of vehicles in S ops that wouldn’t be in multiplayer like Pelicans, Broadswords, Mammoths, Scarabs etc. We’ve already seen the Lich.
Story wise S ops wins no question. The best they could do for Fire fight is that it’s just another simulation. Yawn… S ops’ story could have so many things in the future that Fire fight can’t have like introducing Blue team and other book characters that need a spot in the games, bringing back old favorites like Arbiter, Hood, the H3 ODST squad and going to new places like Instillation 03, Trevelyan, Sangheilios, Venezia and so many other places!
As the improvements to both modes S ops needs a lot more than Fire fight but what we want in S ops is more likely to happen like in-game medals, more advanced scoring, a lives system of some sort, smarter enemies. While what we want in Fire fight is more complex things.
A lot of people don’t like S ops but most of the problems they have will likely be fixed.
I also absolutely love the RvB Easter eggs. You could put them in Fire fight but they would be funner to find in S ops and more numerous with episodic missions.
If we can get both that’d be great but if we’re only getting one and we likely are I’d prefer S ops.
Let me have a go at this.
What if after finishing each Spartan Ops mission you unlocked that level in firefight. Not the whole huge level, just a big enough part really for firefight.
