Bring back what once was

Whatever happened to proximity chat, post game lobbies, Clans and Clan match? I really miss some of those social elements.

Agree with you about clans.

Post game lobbies. A soft pass… they could get pretty toxic.

And proximity chat. Definitely a hard pass. Nothing ā€˜social’ about that.

post and pre game lobbies, yes, need to return. along with clans
though…prox chat? nah nah, i think what is needed is a ā€˜chat to all’ for voice chat and text chat

In Halo 2 I used proximity chat to screw with the enemy. Hit a corner and yell ā€œSomeone help! I’m one shot!ā€ while your full shield with a shotgun in hand. I just miss the versatility it brought to the game.

I have no problem with people questioning my playing abilities and/or parentage.

Most of it was in good fun peppered with a touch of angst.

But way too often it’s super toxic. Misogynist, Racist, and other various degrees of offensiveness. Sadly there are enough people that take things too far that they ruin it for everyone.

well yap yap! there’s a mute feature for a reason >_>
you’re part of the problem, it’s a video game, not real life, let people freely speak and be racist, sexist, etc… it’s a video game. either deal with the trash talk, OR, and here’s an idea… MUTE THE PEOPLE WHO’RE OFFENDING YOU

And I’m part of the problem?

in video games, yes! i get not liking it IRL, but a video game is meant to escape reality, not be apart of it virtually. again, if you don’t like such trash talk, then the mute feature was made just for you

im confused. I get trash talking and i miss it dearly in halo infinite. But dont group us in the bunch defending racism or hate speech. That instantly takes the fun out of trash talking and is the reason why all chat is gone in this game. If trash talkers defend racist PoS then were just helping cause the problem.

TLDR: Dont defend racists and hate speech Online or IRL. Its never cool.

it may not be cool… at all. but it’s still people’s right to say what they want. kinda the only reason there’s a mute/block feature in games or forrums. over censorship ain’t fun

Nah there’s no defending it bud. The only people that defend hate speech tend to spew it. I hate over censorship but anyone using Voice Chat in any game deserves to receive a Universal Chat Ban. Trash Talking does not equal being a racist bigot spewing hate speech. Trash talk should be fun banter that maybe gets heated, but never becomes hateful. I loved talking trash back in the Halo 3/Black Ops/MW2 era, but I always reported people who would use slurs and try and actually be hateful. If we let games become an outlet for hateful people it will drive away decent people who are the bunch we want to stay. I don’t care if Racists try to play Halo and leave and never come back. Sorry Not Sorry.

TLDR: There is really no scenario where defending racists and hate speech is okay or acceptable.

aight, fair enough. i see your point, and i agree. though not on the ban part… a report to then be banned, sure. but not instantaneous

just press x to party up after a match

In addition to Proximity chat, Proximity Voice chat would be fun to have. Which the enemy team could also hear.
Then you could play Warthog Music through your mic for your opponents to hear :P.

Sadly enough it seems the reason why Proximity Chat bit the dust after Halo 2 was Xbox LIVE Parties becoming integrated in the Xbox LIVE Experience instead of being your lobby. So since you couldn’t predict whether or not players would be in your lobby or in chat, they scrapped the feature sometime after Max Hoberman left Bungie around 7-9 Months Pre-Launch for Halo 3. I don’t think we’ll ever get this feature in a modern Halo Title

Trash talking and verbally abusing people aren’t the same things.

Always thought proximity chat would be funny if someone would drive by or launch off a man cannon in a warthog blasting music only to fade in the distance, but post and pre game lobbies were always great for trash talk and gg moments. People don’t appreciate the OG Xbox 360 Live era enough. Funny times. People should be able to opt in or out by default in settings.

I’m 90% sure proximity chat was in both Halo 3 and Reach. However, once Xbox LIVE parties came out, it did become more of a disadvantage to talk in game than before.

You had the option to turn it on. It was off by default and most gamemodes no longer utilized the feature. Max Hoberman recently discussed it in Halo 2 Artifacts.
