I would also like to see some of the following weapons return to the game.
M6 magnum
If they need to keep the pistol atrociously weak swap out the MK 50 sidekick for the M6C from H2 but I would personally prefer the M6G from reach, M6D, M6H/M6H2 from 4/5, or the M6C/SOCOM from ODST since they are somewhat of a staple to the series and also pack way more punch
Type 25 plasma rifle/brute plasma rifle
While I can see how the pulse carbine is sort of the replacement for the plasma rifle I don’t think it’s the weapon we wanted to see made in my opinion. Why combine the properties of the BR and the plasma repeater instead of just using weapons that we know and love? I would also accept the type 51 plasma repeater.
M395B DMR
I know that we already have the VK98 commando rifle but it’s not a marksman rifle in the same way the DMR was. It’s more like a headshot capable assault rifle with lower ammo count and slightly increased magnification.
Type 25 spiker
They’re brutes. Do we really need anymore of an explanation? This, the gravity hammer, and the brute shot were their iconic weapons.
Type-25 Grenade Launcher (brute shot)
Again kinda iconic but also feels more brutish than having random SPNKR brutes in campaign and feels more powerful than the ravager
Covenant carbine
I feel that there’s just not enough headshot capable banished weapons
Fuel rod cannon
Similar to the brute shot it feels more appropriate in the campaign but also it would be a counterpart to the SPNKR
M7/S, M20, M7 SMG
Game needs more SMG gameplay
Feel free to add to this list if you feel that something key is missing or if something here shouldn’t return.
Based on the set of weapons from previous Halo games, I would actually prefer if the Halo 4 Sticky Detonator returned. It’s a truly unique weapon that allows the player to place an explosive charge and detonate it at any time that he wishes. Due to this unique property, the Sticky Detonator is incredibly useful to spawn trap enemies and due to this, rewards a prepared player.
I’d like to see the Reach grenade launcher return, it was a fun weapon to use and I think it is distinct enough from the cindershot to be worth implementing (they fire in somewhat similar ways, but that’s about it). The fuel rod would be fun to see in both multiplayer and campaign. Speaking of campaign, I wouldn’t mind seeing the spiker return there if only to give brutes another sufficiently “brute-y” small arms weapon. I love the plasma rifle and I hate how 343 have neglected the weapon, though I do think it’d be very easy to make the thing complately overshadow the pulse carbine simply by virtue of being easier to use.
To branch out to vehicles I’d love to see the falcon return, the idea of an aerial warthog is just a lot of fun. I think the elephant likewise is a fun team oriented vehicle, though obviously it’d need a dedicated map. Pretty interested in whatever purpose that unfinished banished skiff vehicle was going to fill, I hope it gets finalized at some point.
Also, because I am genuinely curious, why do people want things like the DMR or SMG to return?
They will bring back classic weapons and vehicles. But knowing how 343 is with weapon balancing currently, I have a feeling that they will be heavily nerfed so as to not outshine the “new and high tech” guns. The following are my guesses as to how 343 Industries will kill the game even faster.
DMR = 2x Zoom rather than 3x Zoom
Magnum = No zoom, 8 bullets, slow fire-rate
SMG = Pea-shooter damage compared to the AR
Spartan Laser = Just a buffed version of the Sentinel Beam, but it requires a charge up sequence still
Grenade Launcher = No longer an EMP effect
Pumpy Shotgun = 4 shells instead of 6
Sticky Detonator = reduced explosive damage and cannot stick to players anymore
SAW = slower fire rate so most players die before they have to reload
Railgun = no longer explodes on impact, so it takes LONGER to fight vehicles
Gauss Hog = Charge up before firing like the Railgun
Hornet = No rockets, just machine gun. Basically Halo 3’s annoying Hornet Transport
Falcon = Takes forever to take off.
Plasma Rifle = Overheat now causes an arcing effect on your shields
Carbine = 10 shots instead of 18 and a slower fire rate.
Beam Rifle = Two shots instead of 3 to overheat.
Focus Rifle = Prolonged burst causes a minor explosion instead of an overheat, draining 1/3 of your shield or killing you when unshielded.
Needle Rifle = No longer super-combines. It is now a Brute Spike DMR.
Plasma Repeater = Very slow fire rate that speeds up until it overheats
Plasma Caster = Only blows up when players go near the blue balls
Spikers = VERY slow projectile speed but with high damage, relegating it to a close quarters weapon.
Maulers = Agonizingly slow reload.
Firebomb Grenades = Now replaced with the weak Ravager Goo. Renamed to Ravager Grenades and never picked up by anyone except bots or newbies.
You get the idea.
And I am worried that they will look at this list and go “That is balanced! Give him a job!”
But the problem would be players complaining something along the lines of :
“We waited 7 months only to have the first new gun be useless? I now ragequit whenever I get it in Fiesta or when it replaces the Pulse Carbine on the Weaponrack because it is somehow worse than that dump weapon. Me no like. FIX !!!”
Bringing back weapons just to have more weapons in the game will do nothing good for the game except add clutter to it. Unless it gets a reason to be brought back, something it can fill without stepping on other weapons that also serve a similar purpose then they can stay gone IMO.
Such a shame the carbine and fuel rod gun are not there…yet.
Did see a you tube video of someone using fuel rod gun in Infinite so maybe it’s coming hopefully soon…ish
Agree 10,000%! In its current state it feels more like Halo: Finite or Halo: Limited. This game lacks in every area where previous Halos did not. No maps, no playlists, no fan-favourite weapons, no progression, very limited armour choices, crappy locked armour cores, no emblems, inability to choose your own colours, inability to make your own emblems which has been iconic since like Halo 3.
I have absolute faith that Infinite will one day be a great game, but that day isn’t today.
If Sakurai is willing to bring back EVERY SINGLE FIGHTER from previous smash brother games into ultimate, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to the same with legacy weapons like the fuel Rod, brute shot Ect. Just make all the returning weapons functional in the social playlists, since most of them weren’t the most useful, they have their fair share of uniqueness: Not every weapon needs to be as far apart as possible. Heck , do what Halo 5 with bringing back the H1 pistol and H2 BR… but you could have the weapons as DLC in their respective era’s like the H1 weapon pack, the weapons as they were from the first game: overpowered and ready for round 2, as an example.
