I have been a fan of each of the Halo titles that I have purchased and played. I am a believer that each Halo iteration has had both positives and negatives…all have been enjoyable for their own reasons.
Halo should be fun! please don’t confuse or misinterpret my words to mean noncompetitive. The fun that I speak of has nothing to do with bullet spread, hit-scan vs non hit-scan, armor abilities, equipment, bloom, or any other of the things that are most griped about in the forums.
The biggest let down for me in the last version of halo multi-player was the complete disregard for vehicle game play. I know 4v4 slayer is great but, please 343i vehic-buff please. I still have fond memories of playing on standoff…hogs & laser…and fun! Vehicles were their best in H3…I guess they switched defense contractors. Warthog in Reach…pulls out pistol…pew, pew, pew, …flames and death. Warthog goes over speed bump…and looks like it’s competing in a gymnastics tournament.
No, all weapons shouldn’t be anti vehicle. Yes, it should be a bit difficult to end a hog-massacre. No, you shouldn’t be able destroy a tank with a DMR when a few pieces of its armor have fallen due to tank on tank combat. Yes, there should be a reason to find and hold anti-vehicle weapons like the laser.
If people don’t want vehicle warfare in their 4v4 playlist make a Vehic-4v4 playlist.
Keep the game competitive, it’s fun to compete. Let me have some fun for more than three seconds before it all ends in a giant flaming ball of sadness and bloody tears.
> Reach has been extremely fun for me, and I’m sure Halo 4 will, too.
I agree, Reach has been very fun for different reasons…one of those hasn’t been vehicles. I speak only for myself.
H:CE - had great multi but no xbl
H2 - some of the best maps in the series, compelling game play but ridiculously buggy.
H3 - got rid of bugs, fun maps but equipment at times felt gimmicky and some was useless and net-code felt off…go play swat
H:Reach - some armor abilities work, headshots are headshots, love me some assassinations but, some armor abilities are so much fail, vehicles were left to be dealt with as an afterthought and have never received the TLC they deserve.
I’m still dumbfounded that through all the Title Update talking and fixing things that the community wanted, that vehicles were never touched…fail, fail, and more fail.

I don’t at all wish to convey that Reach was a flop. I still play regularly and have fun…I do however get a sour face when my hog is azzploded by small arms fire before driving half way across hemorrhage.

Post data to back up because from what I remember about H3, this myth is a complete lie. Even social slayer on any given weekend has 50k players. The highest population playlist in Reach doesn’t even hit 5 digits.
I really want to see people posting official data to back up this illogical claim that Reach has more players. You may be right, but back it up with data.

Just so I’m clear, this data compared both game’s launch data right? So these numbers factor in 5 years of Xbox growth, which has closed the gap between it and the Wii substantially to the point of being close to over taking it? Because even if this data was correct, without factoring in half a decade of growth that is like saying the 1950s were a cheaper time because a burger was .50 cents.

Ok…generalize if you must. Some do dislike halo reach. The point of my post is not to spread the hate for every aspect of halo reach. I simply feel that taking a step backwards in some parts of a game seams silly. I just want 343 to make improvements where it is needed to end up with a better game.
I love me some Reach! I also very much despise vehicle combat in the game. I also feel the lack of maps like standoff have been a result of the poor and very much unsatisfying vehicle combat in Reach.

I don’t know what you’re trying to prove by saying that. If you’ve played the games and looked at their in-game counters daily (like when Halo 3 was just over a year old) you would know that Halo 3 held a much higher population. The playlist counts were much higher, and they would fluctuate all the time.

Halo CE-3 = the #1 FPS of their lifespans
Halo reach now #5 after bottoming out at #7
reach is a flop, XBL activity does not lie, stop deluding yourselves. The only reach has had more individual players is due to the fact more people have xboxes in 2012 vs 2007 and people only bought reach due to the name CE-3 built. despite more people on XBL Reach hasnt been able to attract the population the way its predecessors had.

wait you dont like 4 people team shotting and destroying hogs/revenants with ease?

hate to burst your bubble but H3 fended off every dumb wizard game, gears, MW1 and stayed #2 to MW2 2 years after H3 was released, all teh BF games released till reach’s release (yes BF did not start with BF3 crazy right) and it held off PS3 cuz pS3 was around while H3 was out
stop defending your garbage game, just accept you like garbage, its ok if you do. Just realize its a flop compared to CE-3.

for the record…NO! I much preferred the setup in H3. I think they pretty much nerfed every aspect of the warthog. Lets see…driver dies too easily, warthog is pretty much an eggshell on wheels, the suspension has been swapped for trampolines, nearly every weapon is effective against the warthog, and the gun overheats… Personally if they wanted to tone down the Hog from its legendary status in H3 I wish they would have only tweeked the overheating of the gun. This means the gunner has to be a little more careful rather than just spraying. Including all the other crapola made for a very un-fun vehicle experience.
If your playing BTB people shouldn’t avoid the warthogs. That should tell you something. I kind of think all Bungie employees got boat raced by warthogs in H3 thus the super nerf in Halo Reach.
Bro I am with you I love halo reach but the vehicle combat in halo 3 was superb and ODST uplift reserve forget about it amazing music and environment wise ODST was the best for me.
I have such good memories of my friends and I playing ODST running through Mombasa streets just barely finding enough ammunition to make it to the next encounter… sorry had a nostalgia moment XD
I just wish we didn’t get crappy vehicles made out of paper-mache and duck tape. They flip at the slightest pebble on the path and spin out of control when being shot by a DMR.

> Bring back Halo 3 vehicle health and physics.
And this is my point. I wish 343 would at least throw us a bone and acknowledge that vehicles will be greatly improved. I have this fear that this aspect of the game will be greatly overlooked. Just think back to sandtrap in H3…little something for everyone. Hoggin was fun…Tanks fun…ghosts fun…that weird floaty thing…not fun…you can’t have everything I spose.
Please 343 DON’T SUCK UP THE HOG…and make every weapon anti-vehicle
> Yes, it should be a bit difficult to end a hog-massacre. No, you shouldn’t be able destroy a tank with a DMR when a few pieces of its armor have fallen due to tank on tank combat. Yes, there should be a reason to find and hold anti-vehicle weapons like the laser.
Yes it should be hard to end a hog-massacre. But only because they have the mobility, firepower and manpower advantage. Not because their Hog regens to near full health every time they hide behind a rock.
Non-regenerating health on vehicles means that chip damage that people can do with small arms fire provides the necessary limit on how long you can use vehicles just like with ammo on Power Weapons. It’s necessary because vehicles don’t have finite ammo.
And there is a reason to find and hold the AV power weapons: To provide quick death to people using the vehicles. But to effectively require the AV weapons to even stop a player in a vehicle just leads to problems.
Valhalla is prime example.
The team that won the opening bout gets control of the Laser and subsequently brings out their vehicles. Between the two of these, they can stop any attempt on the Laser holder and kill any vehicles attempting the same. After that it simply becomes a spawn trap. The team stuck in such a loop has no counters because above all, their chip damage is rendered moot when the vehicles hide briefly and regen near full health.
With finite vehicle health players still get a benefit from using vehicles, and players still get a benefit from using AV weapons, but it further enhances the skill gap by letting good drivers use the vehicles longer, roadblocks Rambos, and removes a hugely unfair advantage players had.
Just because vehicles are a Power Weapon and you fought for it doesn’t mean you get to be God for as long as you feel like it.
