In appearance, sound, and function, the old sniper was far superior to the newer one. The H3/Reach sniper looked awesome with its green display and sleek design. The 4 one looks like Wall-E’s head taped to the barrel. Soundwise, the H4 sniper doesn’t sound quite right, and isn’t a recognizable sound on the battlefield. It has the oomph, but it lacks the echo and distinctive sound that Reach’s sniper had. Bring back the classic sound while keeping the power. In function, the H3 sniper was the best. It took the most skill to use out of all the Halo snipers. It was projectile, the opposite of hitscan, meaning you had to lead your shots. It also had little aim assist and bullet magnetism. And there was descope in those days so the sniper was truly a weapon of skill that one should and needed to learn how to use, instead of picking it up day one and destroying everyone. With dedicated servers, latency should no longer be an issue, so projectile bullet mechanics should return. Aim assist and bullet magnetism will also no longer be needed as much, and should be toned down.
No. This new sniper sounds and looks so much more functional than the old one. Whats the point of having an infared scope if you can’t see infared. And for the record the new sniper does have an echo and the sniper has ALWAYS been hitscan.

You cant see in blue in the new one and its highly impractical since it blocks your field of vision. Heck why would you want a 90s computer stuck on the top of the sniper. It feels no where near as good thus putting me of sniping which I loved in Reach. Also the old sound was sort of Iconic, I understand 343s reason for change and Im happy with the experimentation but its not for me.
Reach or CEA looks and sounds should be used since that was one of the things that was perfect and reflected the halo franchise, even if other designs are good they wont be that good
When it comes to looks and the sound, the Reach version was my favorite. That said, it doesn’t necessarily need to be exactly like that. Besides, the snipers from Halos CE, 2, and 3 all really looked and sounded nice, too. But when it comes to the Halo 4 sniper, I really don’t like how it looks. The sound is fine, but the weapon itself looks awful.
When it comes to mechanics of the sniper, I’d prefer it to be exactly as it was in Halo 3. That is, non-hitscan and zero bullet magnetism. To be honest, I haven’t researched too much into the snipers from Halo CE and 2 – do they have any bullet magnetism, the Halo 2 version most likely has – but in retrospect, the Halo 3 sniper really felt rewarding to use because it didn’t give you kills that are essenitally free headshots.
Anything after Halo 3 and the sniper in Halo 2 often feel like I don’t really deserve the headshots I get. That is especially the case with the Beam Rifle in Halo 4 that you really only need to point to the general direction of the player to get a no-scope. It’s an exceptional example of why snipers should not have bullet magnetism at all.
> Reach’s functioned the best, while 3’s was the most aesthetically pleasing. IMO
I’m curious, why do you feel that the Reach sniper had the best functionality? Because personally I’d say it was too easy to use, and would rather have the Halo 3 sniper when it comes to functionality (and ironically, I also consider the Reach sniper to be more aesthetically pleasing). So, is there any particular reason why you liked its functionality? Consistency? Ease of use?

> It looks stupid. That’s just my opinion. And it sounds like a mechanical fart. Look at this video. In my opinion Reach’s look and sound is much better than 4’s.

> And please don’t be asserting things that aren’t true. The sniper from Halo CE and 3 is non-hitscan. Fact.
Very much agree. Lol the halo 4 sniper is in another league of its own. This time, that’s not a good thing. Was surprised at how similar Reach’s was, guess I haven’t seen a comparison like this before. Then again, it is Bungie being consistent.
I Loled when he granny pic popped up like “what.” Sounds like someone throwing a tennis ball at a chained fence (pathetic).
I love how the scope emphasizes on range with blur and the badass smoke.
i didn’t notice that they changed the sniper rifle since i have never been big on sniping, if it’s still one to the head and dead it’s working just fine, body shots shouldn’t be a issue ever for real snipers anyway

Fair enough its prototype testing failed bring back the old sniper
Guys chill out.
Every Halo has had a new incarnation of the Sniper Rifle.
Halo 5 should be the same unless 343 derps even harder.
Also dat CEA Sniper is so -Yoinking!- nice. Omg why is nobody talking about the downgrade 343 made???
