Bring back the old main menu

I’m pretty sure most of us can agree that the old main menu(Halo 3, Reach, etc) is much better and much more organized than the Halo 4 main menu.

I don’t want to be shuffling through cards just to see a certain player.

Agreed. The previous Halo menus did have a more functional design to them.

Reach is the most simple and organised. I’m confused why Halo 4’s menu wasn’t similar, as it was built off the same engine. Hopefully the new UI would look much better and inviting. The new one is kind of a turn off.

I dont know, The Halo 4 Spartan IV Trading card game is pretty cool :stuck_out_tongue:

but seriously, I hate it to.

Ya “…it needs to be about 20% cooler…”

In all honesty though I love the stances and how they handled it buuuuuut vertical display functions better then horizontal IMHO.

Absolutely. The unnecessarily large UI elements of Halo 4 felt clunky, looked bad, and made very inefficient use of space. Out of all the UI designs we have had in Halo, I think the best was that of Reach, and that’s the direction we should be headed: simple, classy, everything easily accessible.

Thank you! Finally someone says it.
I can’t stand halo 4’s menu.
I feel like I’m too close to the tv when I’m in halo 4’s menu. And omg with all the blue…

I’m guessing you’re referring more to the lobby menu in matchmaking, in which case yes I agree. Halo 4’s is quite terrible compared to Reach, which was overall the best. Not to mention h4’ lobby is broken in so many ways, filled with glitches and works right maybe half the time.

I just don’t understand how they could screw up the lobby so bad when they all they needed to do was copy Reach.

Don’t say bad things about my precious blue…

This is how Halo 5’s menu should look like: http://i.imgur.com/cPb03qA.png

Halo 3’s, anything to the left, and Halo Reach’s anything to the right. The perfect menu.

  1. You can switch lobby quickly.

  2. You can look at player stats quickly.

  3. It looks sweet.

Reach’s UI was damn near perfect. Halo 5’s UI should without a doubt be based on it.

One thing I loved about Halo: Reach’s UI besides how functional it was, was how nice it looked. I could wait in the lobby and just admire the background for a long time.

The black and blue and music of Halo 4’s menu makes waiting for a match, not enjoyable.

I think halo 3 is good but reach was a little better. i loved the fact that in reach if you hit select you can see if there is someone in the lobby from last game.

Why aren’t you wearing it?

I really did not like the switch lobby button in Halo 3. I reflexively back out to move my party, and 3’s system usually caused me to go through the hassle of gathering all my friends again. I find that a complete re-run of Reach’s UI or Halo 2’s would be perfect.

Reach had the best UI system I have seen in any game. 343i should definitely inspire themselves off of that and completely ditch Halo 4’s menu. I get that they wanted to try something new, and I respect that, but like many other things in Halo 4, it didn’t work out.

So it’s only a habit needing to change for the faster menu, nothing else.

Changing lobby with RB and LB, would be fast and efficient too.

I have no idea why 343 thought I’d enjoy having to turn my head sideways to read all those vertical gamertags. Reach had such a perfect UI, yet 343 completely changed it just for the sake of changing it like they did with most things in Halo 4.

Agreed, but maybe on the name of the player you could see part of the Spartan and its pose… I found that the Reach UI was great and also pleasing to the eyes, especially the Firefight Menu!
Although I did enjoy being able to see everyone else’s Spartans immediately!

I’d definitely be willing to give this a try.

On a side note Halo 4’s spartan poses definitely caught my eye. I think if those could come back with Reach’s UI I’d be set. Maybe trying out the bumper option if it’d fit too.
