Alright guys, this is my own opinion I’ve been wanting to express for a bit now, so if you have any comments or disagreements by all means let me know.
While playing the Halo 5 Multiplayer Beta, I almost always kept my distance from the Battle Rifle for one specific and fairly stupid reason, the way it looked. I’m not a fan of the thinner, more holographic sight it was employing despite it’s range and damage adding to be a very pleasant tool on the battlefield. Going back to Halo 4, I wasn’t a huge fan of the more rectangular looking scope, lighter metallic look and “softer” sound of the weapon when it was fired. All of these things I believe should be addressed and changed in Halo 5.
I would greatly enjoy bringing back a more rounded and elongated scope, darker skin and “heavier” sound to the Halo 5 Battle Rifle.
Just my two cents, thank you all for reading.

Agreed
While the new design of the BR we saw in the Beta wasn’t perfect, it certainly has a more Halo feel to it. The old BR looks like a 22nd or 23rd century rifle, while the new one looks like 26th like it should.

Not even that. It looks like something you’d see on the field today. Especially the scope.
The Halo 4 design was much, much better (even if it took some time to adjust to) and the Halo 5 design is a nice evolution of what we got in Halo 4.
Regardless, all the animations and models and textures and promotional materials and cutscenes and everything is already finished with the Halo 5 BR design. It isn’t going to change in the few remaining months before launch.

Although I wish they stuck with closed “tube” sights for the scope, I generally don’t have that much beef with the new design as some people here do.
My big complaint about it is the sight on it looks really bad. It doesn’t seem to fit in with the rest of the UNSC armory, which has usually been very “geometric” looking, rather than organic.
They could probably do the sound between now and 10/27, but design, sadly won’t change. I’m all for the classic Halo 2-3 Battle Rifle. Hell, you even see Locke holding it in the Halo 2 Anniversary cutscenes. I wish they could bring back its original design, but it probably won’t happen.
Not a huge fan of many of the style changes.
At the very least though they could give it a better looking sight.

Agree 100%

How? Why do you say that?

Because according to 343I’s Art Design…
But the BR55 has been in service sense the Insurrection. So for about 60 years. So updating it to a lighter weight BR85 in a militaristic point of view is a smart idea. Same with the Rockets And Spartan Lazer. With the new Breathing room that MC gave the UNSC after Halo 3. it’s only smart that UNSC update all its existing hardware

But the new one isn’t… As are pretty much all the new designs. They’re polymer.
And…, yeah, I like the new one better. It looks more distinctive. And the orange ammo counter is beautiful.
I DO like the idea that the mid-range intended but all-range capable H5BR has an “open holographic” sight. It’s the most used precision and though the claim is one looses view when scoped… That’s a complaint for 1-way battles looking at the floor as receiving damage descopes players in H5. The seamless moving between scoped views on the Pistol, AR and BR are silky smooth and descoping-rescoping on most weapons has never felt so integrated. (I do hope the SRS isn’t as clunky anymore
Of course I’d like the CEA/H2A “UMPH” treatment to all weapons’ sound in Halo5. They don’t sound real, they sound POWERFUL!!! And that’s a layer of illusion many crave but we all benefit from. Sound is the most important nuance to the videogame world, it can make what looks like cardboard fluff “feel” like its real, even surreal.
Won’t you get to customize scopes in halo 5? Could be mistaken but I could swear I saw a 343 employee mention it somewhere.
if that’s the case maybe they will include the older scope from halo2/3. I can’t stand the red dot scope.
If it got a scope like you say it would take up more of the screen when zooming in like the DMR. Now since the DMR is long range it can handle it, but with the BR being medium range you’ll lose track of moving targets fairly quickly.
I could do with the removal of those things beside the scope though.
Looked goober since H4. I liked the 3 look with 2s sound.
Not to mention the Halo 5 BR looks terrible in 1st person compared to Halo 4s. It almost looks like the whole weapon is slanted forward.
I do agree that visuals can turn you off even when the mechanics are fine. A lot of the basic player animations make the gameplay seem off to me, can’t put my finger on it though.
the only thing that bugs me is the sound of the new br.

The halo4 player animations look very off tbh. What I saw from the beta, I think h5g animations are fine.
