I know right??? What a audacious thing to hear that a Halo fan actually wants this seemingly unfinished and unloved mode to return. Let me explain.
Heres the gist (I will refer to Spartan Ops as SP):
I want Spartan Ops to return in a HUGE way. 343i needs to figure out a way to improve upon the story (or lack thereof) we saw in Halo 4 SP if they were to re-introduce this mode into Halo 5. I would recommend a similar tone to the ongoing ‘Escalation’ series that takes place after SP to replace the story that we saw in Halo 4 that was pretty pathetic (granted those cutscenes did look very pretty). Gameplay variation and quality will definitely need too improve to replace the repetitive and way-too similar ‘scan something then kill a few enemies’ approach we saw a lot in SP (I know some of it was different and the locations were somewhat diverse). Instead of 5 or 4 separate short missions we saw I would love to see a full campaign mission style episode every week.
Thanks a tonne for taking the time out of your day for reading my idea!
I would love to hear your opinion/s of anything I said here, be it criticism, new ideas or agreeing with me.

It would be nice but…
many fans of Halo will almost about 8/10 always choose firefight over the thought to be inferior Spartan Ops. One reason for this is because despite the solid story and beautiful cutscenes the missions were NOT up to scratch. They were too long and they had the same maps, objective e.t.c
it would be a nice addition, but chances are we won’t see Spartan Ops any time soon.
Even if we’re able to have both Firefight and SpOps, I’d rather SpOps just disappear completely. It’s just a waste of resources.
I liked both, but if I had to choose, I’d choose firefight.
Is the spartan ops series not basically not going to just kinda dissolve into the story of H5?
Spartan Ops was one of those ideas that looked cool on paper but in reality was just too hard to pull off.
Making new CG cutscenes all the time is pretty expensive and unless you’re going to get people to pay for it on an ongoing basis there’s basically no incentive for 343i to do it.
We pretty quickly got bored with playing on the same maps repeatedly, with different objective points. Oh, kill these guys over here. Next mission, same maps, kill the guys here.
Unless you’re going to have a dedicated team making new environments and cool missions all the time people will get sick of things pretty quick. And then you have to have enough people willing to pay for the additional content because it’s costly to produce.
Let’s get another season of Spartan Ops!

What? Halo 4 had one of the most original Halo stories since Halo 3: ODST and had some of the best character development in the franchise. If you want to look at a Halo game with a generic story, you only need to look at Halo: Reach. I didn’t care about Noble Team at all while playing through that game. However, I never felt so drawn to Master Chief and Cortana as I did with Halo 4. There was far more urgency, drama and contention to Halo 4’s events than Halo: Reach’s, too.
I’ll agree with you when you say that Spartan Ops wasn’t perfect but still think it should return. There’s plenty of ways it could be improved. 343I would only have to:
- Introduce a limit to the amount of times that a player can respawn.
- Make it available offline.
- Make levels, environments and objectives more varies. Less repeats.
- Integrate more of the story into the gameplay. Make it feels as though we’re apart of the grand scheme of events that are unfolding.
- Use it to test what the community really wants out of Halo. It could lead to better games and improve the experience of Halo 5.
They really left you with the idea there was a season 2… I am still waiting
If it’s done right it was an awesome little co op for me and my buddy. I would rather firefight but the original not that match made version we got last time… That was terrible

I don’t know if it was that hard to pull off. It looks like it turned out to be harder than they anticipated. One of Murphy’s laws is that nothing is as easy as it looks.
It looked to me that plenty of effort went into the cutscenes and maps, and at first a fair amount of effort went into the plot. It was clear to me that the people doing the plot were not talking to the people doing the chapters. They had us just running around pushing buttons to spawn enemies. We voiced our opinions about that and it seemed like they heard us because the second half was clearly superior to the first. It looked like they figured it out, and many of us were anticipating Season 2 and some of us, myself included, were willing to pay for it (if the price was reasonable).
I don’t know if making CG cutscenes is more expensive than doing live action, but they’re doing that now. I don’t know if doing Spartan Ops is more expensive than putting out an anniversary collection but they’re doing that now. I don’t know if doing Spartan Ops is more expensive than making new games (Spartan Assault and that other Spartan Whatever) but they’re doing that now. They seem to be able to acquire the resources to do whatever else they want and make Halo 5.
They have Certain Affinity to make maps. They have Blur to make cutscenes. They have writers squirting out comics like there’s no tomorrow. If they need inspiration, they have us. If they need money, we’ll pay (if it’s not too much
I looks to me like the only thing missing is motivation.

Spartan Ops would be a perfect medium for that.
They would have to create new maps each weak and essentially make a second campaign for it to be considered good. I’d rather have them focus on making a better/longer campaign if I had to choose between the two.
How about replace Spartan Ops with a new, entirely redone Invasion mode. Before replying, please listen to what I have to say, and I’m sure you’ll agree.
I believe Invasion has massive potential. In Halo 5, the maps should essentially become the game’s set-pieces, like the Assault maps for the Unreal Tournament games. However, the mode’s potential can only be fulfilled if it receives significantly more attention. There needs to be at least 4-5 maps, with each having a unique objective and its own special ‘gimmick’, for a lack of a better term. In Halo: Reach’s invasion, I feel like it didn’t go all out. Rather than being this immersive new game mode with an epic, cinematic, feel and unique twists on the gameplay, it just turned out to be a mish-mash of different game modes. It also needs more of a story to it, Halo: Reach’s Invasion maps were just “Walk inside, get the dang core, walk out”. To summarize my post, I believe Halo 5 invasion should become more like a mini-campaign that focuses on PVP elements, with no marines and an enemy team replacing the hostile NPCs.
