I am seriously hoping they give us some armor that is actually rare in game. Armor that has meaning behind it. Armor we can brag about to our friends.
recon, hyabusa, security, achilles, etc. all of these were once rare armors that you had to earn outside of leveling up your character. Recon was legit one of the reasons that i played halo 3 i knew how hard it was to get and it made me grind and grind till i had it.
I love customization just as much as the next but i seriously love bragging to my friends and showing off, and i really want to see them bring back this style of armor back no matter what permutation it may be.
What armor would you guys wanna see return to halo?
I personally hope Hayabusa doesn’t return because I think it’s hideous. Probably won’t be coming back since the entire reason for its existence was because Bungie had an arrangement with Team Ninja. Team Ninja got to use a Spartan (Nicole-458) in Dead or Alive 4, Bungie got to use Ryu Hayabusa-inspired armor in Halo 3.
I’d like to see a return to armor that’s tied to achievements. I don’t want to return to Reach’s credit and level grind, but I wouldn’t be against getting the options it had back. That said I think Halo 3 and Halo 4 got the unlock system right.

It’s hard to get, but that’s mainly because it’s a massive grind. There isn’t much challenge to it other than spending a lot of time in Halo 5.
I hope they don’t choose to lock armor permutations into the REQ system. Keep in an armory section, where players can use in game credits or experience accrued from multiplayer gameplay. But allow players to buy the parts they want: Helmets, visits, chest, arms, legs, armor colorations (stripes, and other patterns, all color customizable by the player). Leave them all open for purchase.
Maybe through collecting, and finding all audiologs in the campaign, have a special badge or medal that can be visible to other players, on your armor. Or for completing the game on legendary, have a special medal or emblem. Just small details to add more personalization options for the player.
Id like to see a return armor additions like from Reach. Cool attachments like grenade bandoliers, ammo and equipment pouches, maybe a Spartan Jun-style camo hood, or tacpads that can be attached to your wrist. Further adding a deeper level of customization.
If the artstyle allows it, id like to see different types tech suits/under suits, maybe an all black variant, or a Spartan Locke style one with those glowing energy lines, maybe even a color math one, seen in Halo 5. Further adding to your Spartan customization.
I think a return of vidmaster-like challenges for armor unlocks, to reward players who like zany challenges.
I’m fine with super rare armor, but I don’t want them to be tied to competitive multiplayer achievements or commendations since they effect how people play the game in a negative way. People solely join matches to get the achievement/commendation considerable hurting anyone that gets matched with them.
Im not sure about rare armors as I just do customization simply to personalize the character with parts that look good like helmet. Crazy right.
I dont really care if the piece is harder than normal to get or if its one of the default armors as long as it looks good.
Though I guess there will always be some that would use even something that looks like seeker if one could get it from hardest challenge in the game.
As for how the armor is acquired. I do like the earn system where you can get certain armor by doing certain things like get a killtacular to get this visor or complete a level in SLASO to get this helmet partly because it adds challenges that I probably wouldnt normally think of doing and therefore it brings variation to the game.
Other earn system that is fine is the credit system where you still can play games to get armor but this time you can choose what you can get by any playstyle you want. Its not as varying but its definitely more open as to what you want to acquire and gives opportunity to change of heart in the middle of collecting. I would just hope that this system would keep all the pieces in same value.
As for the examples. I think that only hard(er) ones to acquire were Recon in Halo 3 when you needed vidmaster challenges when it became available to community and security before the DLC achievements with it requiring you to get all the achievements in the game.
Hayabusa was rather easy given most of the skulls could be found on normal. And the Achilles is easiest of all requiring simply grinding, and it could have been done with multiple people.
But as for the armor that could return, maybe some Halo 3 armor variants. They look simple, smooth and in many cases rather good looking design. Example of quality over quantity.

I do the same when customizing me spartan I just wear the stuff I think looks the best, but I know some people only wanna wear the rarest stuff so I get their side. Personally I’d like the reach system where you earn credits and buy what you want.

Armor had meaning until 343 came and put it in. Micro transactions
I dont want achievements to be the main purpose for achieving armor (pun intended.)
I just want there to be more ways to earn armor other then linear progression and credits (however i think reach and 4 nailed this prospectively.)
Say if recon was to go back to its H3 roots maybe not make it as hard as vidmasters or even pertain it to achievements period, perhaps complete LASO on all campaign missions whilst being the highest multiplayer rank possible before the end of the current year- or something like that id imagine a helmet with a history like recon would be hard to obtain and have some ridiculous feat of strength like that. (a neat little idea would be to have a progress bar showcasing all special armor variants and how close you would be to unlocking them.)
Even easier armor challenges could be like reach the highest points of all multiplayer maps.
Reach 30 invisible medals
beating the campaign on legendary period
just some ideas that first came to my head im sure the community can get creative and help 343 with this process.
What armor if you guys could chose one from any of the halo games would you like to see require a feat of strength to obtain?

if you ever get the free time, check out installation 01’s showcase of armor customization. (this isnt a 343 made game, its fan made but 343 gave them the okay its worth checking out before we get our hands on a official halo pc title besides CE.)
I definitely think some armour should be tied to difficult achievements. I think the vidmasters in H3 were a perfect example. They were tough but they were doable.
I’d love to see some armour for us people that choose to break the game. By that, I don’t particularly mean the HLG kids (although they should get something too), I mean the speedrunners and campaign trickers.
I’d just like to see armour sets for some of the lesser known sub-communities. That would be great.
