> Condense all the anniversary playlists and dlc playlists into one solitary ‘Premium Squad’ playlist. requirements will be ownership of Noble AND/OR Defiant AND/OR Anniversary map packs (you can only play if you own at least one of them). therefore you will only be matched up against players who own the same dlc as you.
It’s not that simple; in fact, there is no simple answer to the DLC problem.
You can’t have, as you suggest, one playlist for both small team (e.g., 4 v 4) and BTB game play. Having Solitary/Uplink/Battle Canyon and Breakneck/Breakpoint/Ridgeline on the same playlist doesn’t make sense. It would take at least two playlists. Either that, or some of the maps would have to be left out.
For some reason, every time a DLC playlist has been made available, it has omitted certain maps that require DLC. For instance, the Premium Battle playlist that this thread is asking to be reinstated did not have Uplink and Temptation in it. I don’t think leaving out any maps that require owning DLC is a good idea.
A related problem: When the Defiant playlist was the DLC required playlist, it had Breakpoint on it, but not for Slayer type games. And initially the Warthogs on Highlands and Tempest were replaced with Mongooses, because of team size (this was subsequently corrected). These types of game play restrictions are not a good thing.
Such playlists also have the inherent problem of deciding which DLC are required. For instance, when Defiant and Noble map packs were required for Premium Battle, those who owned only one map pack felt cheated. When the Anniversary map pack became a requirement as well, this made even more people agitated. Furthermore, these playlists have population problems, which would be exacerbated if there were map pack specific playlists (e.g., one for Noble, one for Defiant). Nevertheless, something needs to be done; I believe the current situation is inappropriate and unacceptable.
Summing up, from my perspective we need to have at least two playlists for DLC maps and all DLC-required maps should be included in at least one of them (depending on map size). I think 343i needs to bite the bullet on this despite the population of such playlists, because of their obligation to those who purchased DLC expecting to be able to play on the maps. And I don’t think we should have to wait until 2012 for this to happen.
Unfortunately, I don’t think anything is going to happen before the January update. It may even be the case that no further changes will be made, which I think will leave a bad taste in too many mouths.
