And this is coming from someone who gets a lot of assist lol. The kda ratio in H5 just wasn’t good to me. Actually the kda made me look better even though I would not be as good as someone who gets a lot more head shots.
For the love of God no.
I’m more of a damage sort of guy. I want to see a breakdown;
- Damage that leads to a kill.
- Damage that doesn’t lead to a kill.
- Damage taken but not killed.
Of course 1. is the important one.
But you could expand so much; who did the most last damage (kills), clean kills (solo damage), initial damage, damage vs you (your nemesis), damage with/against power ups, taking the most damage without dying…

Preffering your ideas
K/D is a meaningless stat anyway.to determine a players ability. Someone who plays primarily ranked at Onyx level will have a k/d close to 1 and someone who plays nothing but big team could easily have a k/d of 4 or 5.
I think the best way to understand players skill before the game is if their current season top rank was displayed on their profile front and centre if you really wanted to check what you’re against. Unfortunately that’s usually only available after the game now. It was good to know if I was about to play against a bunch of 5* generals in Halo 3 social as I could play the game seriously and contest the power weapons and focus on map control.

I think K/D should be broken down by game mode. In matches that are Team Deathmatch/Deathmatch (in games besides halo) and Slayer/Team Slayer I have a high K/D ratio…but when I play objective based games like CTF or KotH I have a lower one because I am playing the objective.
Well, I’m going to put forward an opinion totally contrary to everyone’s and controversial.
Completely eliminate any negative statistics that contribute nothing more than community clash. Leave only the statistics of time played, players killed and games won. I see no use in knowing how many times I have died or how many games I have lost. At least not in social games or in private games.
It can be a debatable subject in the competitive, but I have never seen the sense to have that type of statistics in social or custom games where everyone plays in a carefree way or without being serious. There is no useful information in any of it and it only causes them to be used to spite another person.
Especially in this forum I have come to see Onix players ridicule other users just for their statistics, even detracting from their opinions or ideas for these worthless numbers.

People bragging about their K:D is completely and utterly pointless.
If you have a high K:D you are either smurfing (yoink-er) or farming objective games (even more of a yoink-er). Or matchmaking is failing.
Essentially, as your W/L or K/D goes up… you should be matched against harder opponents and your W/L brought back to 50% and your KD back towards 1.0. Only the best of the best should start to drift very far from these numbers.
Typically when someone starts bragging about their KD you can assume they are going to be a -Yoink- team-mate.

This is the correct answer. I was playing at onyx and champ the majority of H5 and my kd is barely above 1 in arena. My warzone Kd is a 3.0 basically lol. So many people dont get this. If your kd is super high youre playing big team and other social. Its virtually impossible to have a high kd playing high ranked consistently. Not even the pros do. Rank is what matters not kd.

I agree, personally I’d prefer no stats for social.

^^ damage is a good way IMO. Cleanup kills or trash kills can inflate k/ds. FFA is a great game mode for lots of cleanup kills when you finish people off that are already one shots or half dead. Btb is another mode that can be easy to rack up kills and not truly reflecting your skill. Vehicles can rack em up pretty quick, finding a corner and just sniping people down, etc etc.
I prefer games that use a ranking system of sorts not to rely on K/D for your position, and like others have said, ideally you want your K/D to stick around 1.0, anything less and you‘re likely playing vs superior players, anything more and you’re playing against inferior players. You want that balance to be there to actually challenge the player.

Well I’m going to disagree with this. People, including me, like to see stats. I look at them after every game. Yes I agree that some times they are meaningless. But this sounds like the “everyone gets a trophy attitude” IMHO. Better to learn to ignore the kind of people who talk noise than to start taking away things from everyone.

I agree that kd isn’t an exact prediction of talent. But it’s fun to look at it. My kd was always lower in objective grants because I did what was necessary for the team. It still doesn’t hurt to see it though.
I like the addition of damage dealt. Much better indicator of what I’m doing. Though it looks like I’m in the minority on this one.
Maybe just don’t show K/D ratio in objective based games, only slayer type?

Yeah dude, I don’t agree. The more stats available the better. Especially when there are Platinum 2’s or barely Diamonds trash talking… I’ve been messaged so many times for being trash because I led the kill board in a game… So being able to respond to those lovely comments with facts, is great. I’m not one to START the trash talking, but I will respond if necessary.

I knew someone would respond with this. No, I’m sorry, but no, removing unnecessary stats and optimizing them to show what really matters will never be a “everyone gets a trophy attitude” situation. It is taking out unnecessary garbage, which in the end only serves to annoy and damage.
And there are many people in the Halo community who would be in favor of reducing the statistics only to what is necessary and above all focusing exclusively on the competitive. No social games or custom games.

Literally your comment is an example of why I am against statistics.

I agree, I like to see stats and I will always see more skill in K/D ratios compared to win/losses. You can get wins even being low skilled player (being carried, etc) but to have an above average K/D requires some semblance of skill regardless of social matches vs ranked.
Counting assists is just fine, especially if you have someone driving a warthog the whole game. There is no reason we can’t just have all these stats tracked individually, but yea, people who get lots of assists should be able to see that number and feel good about themselves, it doesn’t hurt anybody.
Lots of different opinions here. Good debate with everyone being relatively respectful. Thanks for that.

K/D is not relevant except for bragging brights…I hope they are transparent with the components for TrueSkill and show things like kills per minute vs benchmarks (or something similar).
