Bring back halo wars as a 1st person shooter

We can all agree that halo wars was fun but not a big hit. I suggest we try bringing strategist back to halo but in a more halo type for. This is why I suggest a first person shooter with an sit rep function. So for example you have a base where you can build vehicles and train troops you then start building up your army. While you are doing this the enemy can attack you or you can attack them. This will start a combat phase. during a combat phase you first select you plan of attack or defense then your character deploys to engage in battle as a first person shooter.
If your character goes down you will go into sit rep mode until the area around you is secured. In sit rep mode you can change the plan of attack or defense to either win the battle or to rescue your character. If you lose you fall back to base until you no longer have a base in which case you lose. If you win then you take the base or stop the enemy from taking yours.
I know this is a lot but space battles should also be offered.
This idea would likely take a lot of processing power that is why I suggest keeping the graphics level low. As long as the game play is good most will just ignore the graphics.

No, we can’t. Halo Wars is the best-selling console RTS game to date, was well-received by critics and has one of the most consistent population counts I’ve seen on consoles. It was, and still is, a great game. And if we’re talking about future spinoff Halo titles, there are various additions that you could make to Halo Wars - a Covenant campaign, playable Flood and Forerunner factions, building outside base sites - that would justify a sequel.

I see no reason why we need to make an RTS which chucks you into first-person mode at your opponent’s discretion. That just sounds incredibly irritating to me, I’d much rather just have a pure FPS and a separate RTS.

On a more positive note, I’m all for full-on space battles. It sucks that they were cut from Reach, hopefully 343 can pick up where Bungie left off.

This^

And the only significant critic that poorly rated Halo Wars was GameSpot, and that was because they were comparing to a PC RTS, which is pretty unfair if you ask me.

Halo Wars was fine as is. If they were to make a sequel, I’d want the Spirit of Fire to run into the greater Ark or something of importance(maybe even the Absolute Record?). I’d want to be able to play as flood. That should’ve been the third faction that easily could’ve worked. Covenant campaign would be a big plus. Could’ve been some straggler ships following the Spirit of Fire to the destination they were heading to.

But no, I want it to stay an RTS. It wouldn’t work if it was a first person shooter. Think of it like this. Crazy marine just runs around dodging a Scarab and destroying it all on his own. It would be very broken.

I would much rather prefer Halo Wars as an RTS.

im sorry but that sounds awful.

it was good as is and needs a legit sequel. if you didnt like it, simply dont play it. theres no reason to “fix” what isnt broken.

I would love to see Halo Wars 2. As a console RTS, it worked really well. Keep it as an RTS. Of course, a few changes COULD be implemented as a bonus to help justify a second game, such as the ability to build off of the Firebase (plant stuff anywhere) and perhaps if you really wanted to try something new…add a space mechanic as well. Build some anchors in space, build ships from those anchors…could be fun.

As a side note, I have always wanted Microsoft to release an Xbox Keyboard and Mouse accessory for console RTS games in general. They have steering wheel accessories for racing games…so why not mouse and keyboards for RTS? Keep it as a first party accessory (mouse + keyboard - both wireless) and price it at $99.99

Of course you can still use a controller with the game if you wanted to, but having a keyboard would go a long way in muting the complaints against console RTS.

Just my 2 cents however.

No offense to OP but Halo Wars has established itself as an RTS and was the first one that I played. I mean the cinematics were beautiful and I wouldn’t mind a sequel that tied into the main story arc.

I feel Halo Wars was perfect as is.

I’ll love for this to happen. Big Open areas with lots of different battles goiong on in first person would be epic.

Terrible idea. Halo Wars did fine by itself. No need to try and justify a sequel by implementing a FPS feature.

Halo wars was not a big hit?

Now tell me again, was Halo Wars a big hit?

i loved halo wars as it was, i wouldnt have minded maybe small fps parts but it was great as it was

It would be cool if instead of it being hardcore FPS action, you could spawn in your soldiers and take control of whichever one you choose. I call Forge.

Halo Wars was a good and very successful game.

If you do not like Halo in the RTS format, go play one of the FPS halo games, there’s quite a few of them to choose from.

As a summarized response to the OP:

No.

I liked Halo Wars and its unfair to compare it to PC RTS’s b/c obviously today’s consoles are very limited in RTS capacity in comparison to PCs.

Yes, the game isn’t perfect, and they’re some issues with glitches, and some balance issues between covenant heroes compared with some of the human heroes, but for the most part all of these can be addressed in the 2nd installment.

At the same time it would be interesting and make for a fun 1st person shooter as well. The story for Halo Wars was well executed and I think it would translate well as a 1st person shooter.

Halo Wars appealed to RTS players while the rest of the franchise went with 1st person shooter. These are 2 different demographics to appeal to. To make the sequel to Halo Wars a 1st person shooter would neglect the RTS gamers, which is unfair since Halo Wars is the only RTS game currently present in the Halo franchise.

In short I’m cool if they make a 1st person shooter based on the story of Halo Wars, but DO NOT replace future Halo RTS projects with 1st person shooters.

As long as the d-bomb exists, there is nothing to worry about. If anything, there are balancing issues between the units. With hogs and tanks by their side, nothing can touch the UNSC. That’s something that should have been fixed so long ago.
=/
But yes. No Shooter.

Please keep posting on these forums because you bring up a lot of good points. RTS should include no FPS elements of any kind, otherwise that would destroy the game play in my honest opinion.
