im sure im not the only one who gets frustrated at bieng constantly paired with random people who arent of the same skill level, in halo 2 you only got matches with people based on your rank, in halo 4 it is the same as cod ranking system, where basically as long as u play u will make it to top rank eventually, in halo 2 however you actually had to work your way to the top, the higher your level was the less likely you get paired up with kids who are terrible at the game, why did they have to change it?
id prefer to go into matchmaking knowing the people i will be paired with are wanting to actually play instead of just messing around team-killing, and generally just sucking.
the halo 2 system is in my opinion the best ranking system used on a game, if u suck u dont progress to the top, it kept the hardcore players at the top to enjoy decent games and the new players at the bottom playing each other until they gain the skills to level up.
hopefully they bring back the halo 2 rank system for the next halo or even update halo 4 to this system, the one at the moment is pretty rubbish.
Although this is unusual how you brought up Halo 2 ranks instead of Halo 3 ranks, when it comes to competitive skill ranks in general… you’re preaching to the choir.
Costs vs Benefits in my mind completely favor the skill based system, and I only got to commander in H3 if that says anything. I agree with you, but we’ll see what happens. 343 seems pretty defiant on this topic.
halo 2 was probably the most competitive game ive played on xbox live over the space of around 9/10 years, i always remember how much harder people would play to win, once u got past the 20ish mark on halo 2 it was almost guarenteed that u would get a decent match-up with people within your own skill level.
the new ranking systems used in halos since has been a big factor in why so many cant stand matchmaking, i dont want to play with people who have no intention of playing properly, at least they had incentive to play in halo 2, if u lost ur rank goes down , if u win u go up an it keeps players playing evenly matched opponents.
instead im stuck with people who bring in guests into matchmaking then quit if they dont like the map or start betraying because theyre little d bags thinking its funny, then you get the usual " its just a game" , that is true but some of us only enjoy playing to win, not just for the sake of it, i like to have something to show for my efforts, whatsthe use if someone who is garbage can get to the top and have the highest rank making it meaningless.
> whatsthe use if someone who is garbage can get to the top and have the highest rank making it meaningless.
well i can almost guarantee you no one who is “garbage” as you put it will get a csr 50.
the ranking is fine but it would work much better with more people to choose from when matching folks up for a game. if im a 22 and im paired with a 4 thats no good. but if a 4 is all thats around your stuck with it.
hopefully halo 5 brings it and this isnt an issue again.
they may not reach level 50 but it still pairs you up with those much less skilled, in halo 2 the only way you could get paired with a lower rank is if someone had them in the party to begin with, it would match u up based on the highest rank in the party at the time, i also dont think they should allow guest players into ranked games, everyone knows theyre going to lose with a team of player 1 and their guests, i play to win not just because its something to do, otherwise i wouldnt play matchmaking, halo 2 for me was the only ranking system that works for matchmaking.
> they may not reach level 50 but it still pairs you up with those much less skilled, in halo 2 the only way you could get paired with a lower rank is if someone had them in the party to begin with
it pairs you with lesser skilled players as their are less players to choose from period.
the only reason halo 2 didnt have that issue is because more people played it.
more players = better skill matchups as there are more people to pick from
less players = worse skill matchups as there are less people to pick from
also, as their is no ranked playlist guests can play wherever they wish. however i do agree with ya here and i would like a ranked list where guests are not allowed.
that is untrue, in halo 2 it was near impossible to get a match once u passed level 40+, half the time you were paired against the same people over and over again, the system didnt allow for a party of 40+s to get paired with anything lower than a 35 unless there was a 35+ who had a lower ranked player in their party then you would occasionally get matches with say 23+37+40+46 vs 40+45+45+48 for example, it meant players were always playing against players of the same mindset/skill level
The only reason why there is so many less players on halo 4 is because there is no proper ranking system, once you get to 130, it’s pointless, sure they have a ranking system on their website, but who wants to check a website for a rank?, it has to be in game.
All they have to do is implement 1-50 ranking system in halo 5 and hype it up and people will come.
