im getting annoyed by how small the new forge maps are, all of them combined still aren’t nearly as big as reach forge world, impact is as big as the canyon, erosion is about the size of the pillar of land near the coliseum, and ravine is the size of the “alaska” part of forge world.

i kind of did everything there was to be done in forge world but im afraid to see what 343 would make if they would make something similar in size. just play it safe and bring back forge world
Its not that the maps are small per say, they are quite large, but they are large because the kill barriers are extended. The actual part of land and the map itself is quite small.
The problem is, there is no variation. In Halo Reach, Forge world had a part of the mpa for just about any scenario. Wanted a flat map? Place for that. Wanted an island? Place for that. Wanted on the side of a cliff? Place for that. Wanted a Canyon? Guess what, there was a canyon.
With the environments in Halo 4, if you wanted a flat map that was grassy, it can’t be done. Ravine is just not suited for most maps unless you build over the ocean. And if you build over the ocean, what is the point of having a land area?
It just doesn’t make much sense. Besides, what if I get tired of seeing Impact and space? I like vibrant and bright colors, the Impact seems to be the only really bg sized map for race track making. Erosion and Ravine are hardly ever used.
I really hope they come out with a forge map DLC that has 3 or 4 new forge environments with different themes (snow, desert, UNSC facility maybe) and I REALLLY hope they throw in Forge World some time. Despite the really dull gray colors, the map itself was awesome. I mean, the maps we have are nice, but there is hardly ever a time that I will want to have a really rough terrain (Erosion and Ravine) so the aesthetics of the map are kind of pointless.
Eh a BIG map like Forge World isn’t necessary IMO-
a FUNCTIONAL set of Forge maps however are. Only Impact is a good Forge space, the best places to Forge on the other two are in the air AWAY from the actual map… BTW, I get 343 is mostly terrible at Water effects but that’s no excuse to make it inaccessible…
What makes them suck are the soft kill boundaries. They have no place in forge by default! If you want to put ridiculous boundaries on a map that is supposed to promote creativity, just make invisible walls!
I liked the big race maps for warthogs, i had a lot of fun with my friends in Halo Reach
Impact as big as Canyon? LOL. Maybe as big as Island + Alaska + Montana + All the ocean on the other side of Montana.
Errosion is more comparable to Canyon + Colosseum + Lagoon
Ravine is like Quarry + Canyon.

What I don’t understand is that unlike Forge World the map doesn’t go off into forest.
Ravine especially should have NO BOUNDARIES until you’ve been hovering over ocean in any direction, or are well above the structures, and should go as low as the Ocean.
Errosion only needs boundaries to keep players from going out the top, and from going out past the “Water” area. But should NOT kill players before hitting water.
Impact should only have Boundaries when you are way above, way below, or way beyond either Asteroid. It’s silly that you can’t go around to the back of the Asteroids (like ravine).
We do need a new Forge World. Ravine is a small map to Forge on and there’s way too many kill boundaries. You can’t even make ships on that map like in Reach. I was gonna build a ship on that map and I keep getting killed by kill boundaries. The items are too big we should be able to get out further to make big ships like in Reach. Far as I know in Reach the only kill boundaries were the forest areas on the mountains and barriers where you can’t reach to the far end of the map however the map was big enough for us to build alot of things. Halo 4 needs something similar a new Forge World and much bigger for us to Forge on to create our own games and objects. To me Halo 4 has way too many kill boundaries everywhere. The next map needs to be a new Forge map for us just like Forge World on Reach. 343 should listen to us I hope they are.
Why does everyone want Forge World specifically? Why can’t we just have a flat grass map or something?
The only good one is impact.
The other two are meh.
But damn it, give us a snow/desert map!
The problem I had with Forge World was that I couldn’t do forge on any other maps besides Forge World, because all of the other ones sucked. I’d much rather them have a bunch of smaller maps then just one big one. And plus all the -Yoink!- Forge World maps for the matchmaking was so annoying… Some of them were OK, but I hated seeing them every map rotation.
people want the big maps for race/art and making BIG maps in the sky and maybe a little bit of ships on the water, i liked it because it was HUGE just being able to do whatever you want in a giant halo map. i mostly made end to end base battles
or air combat with falcons. but then i started making whole maps with the entire forge world.
i always loved downloading the top forge map/racetrack/art on the file browser, and mostly i loved flying around in a falcon
I had planned to post my own thread on here, but I’ll throw it in this one:
Forger Maps DLC
Carve & mod Forge World into three new fresh environs.
Haemorrhage area:
The tunnel to the island is converted to lead to a Ridgeline styled area with removable bases, set out for 4 teams. Add in a Battle Canyon styled area opposite the tunnel. Forge objects skinned with a dark UNSC scheme (not the current one, columns for one are useless).
Paradiso area:
The tunnel from the island is converted to lead to second beach area with another island similar to Paradiso in size, larger tunnel network, with possible sections where water has leaked in. Add another island, smaller than the others parallel to the tunnel. Forge objects skinned with an ancient stone & steel look scheme (look at the Metroid Prime series to get an idea of what i’m on about).
Asylum/Pinnacle area:
Without the island, this would have a huge space for water map. Near the Pinnacle area, add a set of stone pillars similar to the Pinnacle close enough together for bridge/ramp networks, with possible tunnel through a few of them (just not too close to the Pinnacle to void remakes). The area under Asylum, add more interconnecting areas including another opening area on the round area of the cliff. Forge objects skinned with the Reach Forge scheme with the colours/shading rebalanced so it all matches in.
Add to this one or two of the following options to really keep the Forgers happy;
Forerunner:
Clouds as the base/bottom of map with Forerunner pillars rising up 20-25 forge units high, several different pillar pieces that can continue them up, including tunneled through & balconied items. Forge objects skinned with a matching Forerunner scheme, maybe a few crashed UNSC/Cov vehicle objects.
High Noon:
Expanded to include 4-5 smaller interconnected areas including the platform in front of the energy vortex. Most of the built-in objects removed & added to the pallet, to increase forgeability. Forge objects skinned to match map scheme.
Infinity:
Think Condemned or Anchor 9, but with greater forgeability. Areas could include engineering, the bridge or cargo bays/hangar bays. Forge objects skinned to match, could include Cov boarding vehicle objects.
Covenant:
Think Zealot or Penance, a Covenant themed forge map similar to Infinity in concept. Forge objects could include crashed Pelican/Longsword items.
I have three more ideas & these are just a bare bones run down of each as I don’t have time right this minute to go into any serious details. If anyone thinks that a thread of its own, feel free to post it, just let me know, so if 343i come looking for me, I’ll know why.
