I really like both of these ideas. Even though the flood is personally not my favorite enemy type, I think you bring up an amazing idea. In terms of story, firefight mode could be a way to re-live a handful of final stand battles in the halo universe. Doesn’t have to be only humans, it can be covenant as well. Even though I don’t think firefight needs a narrative drive, I think this idea would be the best way to do it.
I like TribunusCarlos6 idea the best. If 343 doesn’t want to take the time to encorporate a firefight mode into the game, at least give us the tools to do it ourselves. Can you imagine the epic battles people could create if this was an option?
When I say that this can sometimes be frustrating, this is what I mean. I like being part of the community and posting in these forums, but why do I have to create a thread to tell the professionals please do not take out a feature of the game that people love and adds replayability and value to the game? It just seems like a complete no brainer.
Scenario: Halo 5 multiplayer is popular for 2 months and then fizzles out just like halo 4. Lobbies are empty, everyone has played campaign on legendary, what now? Good thing halo 5 has firefight, firefight scoring, firefight leaderboards… simple features to make the game relevant for the long haul for all players, especially the casual ones who don’t want to end their night annoyed after getting steamrolled in competitive multiplayer.
I don’t want to assume anything about a game that is still a year away from release, but I think 343 has revealed something not particularly positive in my mind with the halo 5 multiplayer beta. Let me first begin by saying I really really like the beta and I think halo 5 is going to be a great multiplayer game. I was already aware that they were trying to push the game toward E-sports, but I think the thing that they revealed was actually how hard they were pushing, to the point where it actually seems like they are trying too hard. I feel this way because:
-Corny spartan chatter during matches
-Corny pre/post game spartan bro-outs
-Over talkative announcer
-Spartans using multiplayer halo culture terms like “snipes” and “nades”
Now to make my point and get back on topic. I hope the rest of halo 5 does not take a back seat to this desperate push by 343 to harness what they think halo culture is and what they think would make halo fans happy. Maybe 7 year old halo fans… Halo cuture is not supposed to attract “bros” and “frat boys”.
