I have not seen any demands for this return and it shocks me because this was such a big part of Halo.
I usually don’t use the word “need”, but seriously, de-scoping needs to return or else Halo 5: Guardians is already heavily disappointing to me.
Being forced out of scope by being shot was a huge way to balance scoped weapons and a great punishment to the guy being shot.
Snipers in Halo 4 are completely overpowered because they can continue to laugh and shoot you while scoped despite the fact that you are peppering them with bullets.
I mean really, is there any argument as to why de-scoping should stay out? I quite literally cannot think of any reason other than to casualize Halo and make the game easier.
While I will in no way contest the return of descope in multiplayer, I do think that it breaks combat in PvE gamemodes.
The most stressful aspect of Legendary IMO is constantly being forced out of scope because of how the AI fires their weapons at inhuman speeds. There’s almost no true long range combat because of this.
Actually, descope in general does break true long-range combat. You’ll never have a true DMR duel if you’re forced out of your scope with each shot. In fact, the DMR will be useless because of descope; unless your opponent ignores being shot at, you’ll always be forced into close-to-mid range, where you’ll get shredded by BR’s and AR’s alike.
But, I do think that flinch is a poor alternative. Both systems are negative in my humble and heretical opinion.
I was always annoyed at descope. There have been times where I was fighting with the scope because of descoping. If I know I’m about to get shot, I try to zoom out, but then I get shot and I end up zooming in. I try to undo this and end up zooming in again. Sometimes it can get really annoying.
Another problem is that with most precision weapons they still retain their accuracy when descoped, so they’ve still got a good chance to hit you on the next shot.
Flinch on paper sounds like a good alternative. Can use suppression to prevent someone from firing while your team moves up. But then again, as I refused to play Halo 4 I never could find out what was so bad about it.

Have you played Halo 3/Reach?
Long ranged battles are not broken at all. Long range battle are plentiful in both games.
If you get shot and descoped? Scope again. And if your strafe is good enough and the enemy misses their shots, you’ll maintain your scope and easily kill them.
And the DMR is surely NOT useless because of descope. The DMR was a death star in Reach, despite the descoping.
