343i should have another global championship or some sort of tournament. I always liked to play halo competitively and i think that many players would enjoy another tournament. Bring another tournament to halo 4 343i!!!
Or stop supporting Halo 4 and focus on a game that will be competitive.
> Or stop supporting Halo 4 and focus on a game that will be competitive.
Current Halo 4 Legendary settings are actually quite competitively minded.

How exactly?

What game did you have in mind?
I do miss the AGL tournaments quite a bit. Those games were great. Only thing that bothered me was how they never played infinity but still, I wish agl could come back.

haha I wish AGL never touch Halo again. AGL failed to pay out hundreds of paychecks and canceled the last event a few days before it was set to start because the hotel hadn’t been finished. People that had booked flights, tickets ect lost all there money. They just handled the whole situation very poorly and left the Halo community incredibly angered.

Equal starts (no loadouts), no Ordnance ect. It’s pretty much Halo 3 with Flinch and Sprint. So at it’s core it is competitive it just has some bad mechanics such as Sprint and Flinch.

The very first Halo 4 tournament used infinity settings.

Ahh man! What changed that was awesome!
It would be even better now after the weapon tuning, we would see them using a wider variety of guns.
There were a few things it noticed I’m a little confused about. How come there is no motion sensor? That would make things like sensor and awareness worthless. Also why is the bottom of the map on solace shut off?

Because Sammy, as numerous people have told you in many other posts, Infinity settings are not competitive. Infinity settings’ unbalance and randomness is completely the opposite of competitive, which entails equality and fairness across the board.
Not sure if you ever followed competitive Halo when it actually was a competitive game, but I’ve never been a motion tracker in professional tournament settings and I watched Halo 3 MLG. I think its one of the better ways of making sure players maintain awareness of their surroundings. Plus it prevents people using those cheap perks as a horrible advantage, again to keep things balanced and fair (aka competitive).
Do we really need to turn this into another one of “those” threads? The majority disagreed with you last time, and it will more than likely happen again.

Ok Phil it is clear that you and I simply have a different view as to what is more competitive. You think traditional settings are more competitive due to equal starts and no unpredictability, I understand that. I think infinity is more competitive due to the myriad of different strategies and team compositions that arise from it, and the increased need for teams to be adaptable and observant, I hope you in turn can understand that.
> I think infinity is more competitive due to the myriad of different strategies and team compositions that arise from it, and the increased need for teams to be adaptable and observant
Possibilities and variables ≠ competitive
Therefore:
More possibilities and variables ≠ more competitive
I doubt there’s much value left to do another competition for i343. The first one, the Infinity Challenge was poorly handled and the second one I don’t even remember.
Even the current Team Slayer thing barely made a dent on the playlist’s population.
I doubt that a competition would do much as of now.

You’d love Magic The Gathering

I disagree. Any competition where there is a significant cash prize will be attended and watched. Especially if the cash prize is guaranteed.

Sammy, what did I tell you about using the word “competitive” in these forums?
Infinity settings or not, when there are two or more sides and someone is keeping score, you have a competition. If everyone in the game has access to the same equipment/abilities, it’s fair.
You guys are mostly arguing over the amount of skill needed to prevail within the two styles of play. Vektor0 prefers a type of game where there is nothing for the players to rely on except for the most basic elements, like a boxing match. Sammy likes a game that more closely resembles UNSC Spartan activity.
There’s no right or wrong here. Both styles have coexisted in Halo since Halo 2. It’s unfortunate that 343i sort of shoved Infinity down our throats, but it’s clear that’s been their strategy since they took over Reach. The point is that both styles, everything in between, and extremes at both ends can all coexist, and the fans will choose what they like.
You can’t choose if you are not given a choice.

But to what extent? And what will it do for Halo 4? Boost the population for a couple of days/weeks and then it’s back to normal.

Ahh Naqser, the population the population. You and I both like halo 4, that’s what’s important right?
I’m glad you brought up magic the gathering. That game is taken quite seriously in the competitive sense. From what I understand large tournaments with quite a bit of money on the line are frequently held.
Magic is random without same starts.
I doubt it very much that 343I or Microsoft would put any more money on hosting some tournament.
Since, there isnt really a need for such a thing anymore.
Also, to keep this sort of threads OT, ignore Sammy. He still has no idea what he is talking about.
> > Or stop supporting Halo 4 and focus on a game that will be competitive.

It’s not the settings completely that screw Halo 4 from a competitive standpoint, it’s also in the built in mechanics. Legendary Slayer is uncompetitive for the same reasons tournaments for Throwdown-style games died out. A combination of Sprint, and a jokingly simple learning curve on the Halo 4 BR.
It’s the game itself doesn’t require enough skill to be competitively viable, it’s not just the infinity gimmicks (though those do make it griefingly worse)
> Ahh Naqser, the population the population. You and I both like halo 4, that’s what’s important right?
Sure, as long as there’s someone to play it with that makes it fun to play. Or that there’s a good selection of available playlists as well. Low population doesn’t come with either of those.
Low population means less amount of players near your own personal skill level, meaning that matches very easily get one sided, and quickly.
Low population means less players available to play with in different playlists and thus playlists gets removed or put together. Thus leading to not getting to play what gametype you want when you feel like it, or playing it less frequently.

Henche why I brought it up. If you don’t already play it, you should. I’d say it suits you perfectly.
There are plenty of games that are random and still played in competitions. However that’s no reason to bring that to Halo. It’s all been explained to you before. I don’t see why Halo needs to be made into one of those games.
> There are plenty of games that are random and still played in competitions. However that’s no reason to bring that to Halo. It’s all been explained to you before. I don’t see why Halo needs to be made into one of those games.
He most likely wants to bring all the randomness to competetitive Halo since he has said multiple times in the past that Halo is he’s favorite game series.
Which is kinda funny since he has also said multiple times that he dislikes every Halo game made before Halo Reach.
